Néstor Cortés recorded nine strikeouts in five innings of work on Thursday, yielding only one run, but he did not get the decision.

In Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Red Sox, Néstor Cortés ended up with a no-decision. He pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks while striking out nine batters. Cortés equaled his season-high of nine strikeouts against the Red Sox on Thursday. Although he did not allow a hit in 4.1 innings in his previous relief appearance, the Yankees have now switched to a six-man rotation, leading to his return to the starting lineup. With the exception of his start on September 1st against the Cardinals, where he surrendered five runs, Cortés has now limited opponents to one run or fewer in five of his last six outings. The 29-year-old will bring a 3.90 ERA and 1.15 WHIP into his next start, which is currently slated against the Mariners.

Yordan Alvarez did not get any hit on Thursday.

Despite a 6-3 win against the A's, Yordan Alvarez, who was batting second in the Astros' lineup and playing left field, went hitless. He finished the game 0-for-4, causing his batting average for the year to drop to .311. Over his last 15 games, the Cuban slugger has been hitting .350 with an on-base percentage of .391 and a slugging of .733, hitting 7 home runs, scoring 9 runs, and bringing in 13 RBIs. He has a total of 32 home runs and 80 RBIs in 591 plate appearances this season.

Yandy Díaz had another solid performance with multiple hits.

Yandy Díaz continued his strong play in September by going 2-for-3 with a walk in a 5-2 win against Cleveland on Thursday. The Rays' first baseman hit his 28th double of the year, adding to his 14 home runs and one triple for a total of 43 extra-base hits in 2024. This marked Yandy's fifth game with multiple hits in September, a month where he boasts a .389/.463/.611 slash line with 2 home runs, 4 runs scored, and 6 RBIs, making it his best month of the year so far. He has now reached 150 hits for the season, just 23 short of his personal record of 173 set last year.

Randy Arozarena tallied 2 RBIs on Thursday. Adolis García collected an RBI.

Randy Arozarena contributed two RBIs in a 5-4 defeat against the Rangers on Thursday. Despite going 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, he managed to deliver a crucial single to center field in the fifth inning with the bases loaded, propelling the Mariners to a temporary 3-1 lead that they were unable to maintain. This performance brought his total RBIs for the year to 54, maintaining a batting line of .219/.329/.392 in what has been a challenging and demanding season for the talented Cuban outfielder. During the same game, Texas' Adolis García earned an RBI. Adolis had a 1-for-4 performance with two strikeouts, bringing his total RBIs for the year to 75.
