  • MLB 2024 | Yariel with his best outing of the season; Yordan hit his 17th homer; Iglesias also homered in win; Yanquiel's progress in the Minor Leagues is ongoing

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Yariel Rodríguez limited the Astros to one run and two hits over 6 2/3 innings in a tough loss Monday. Yariel Rodríguez (0-3) took the loss Monday versus Houston, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out six. The 27-year-old rookie pocketed his first career quality start in his longest outing of the season. Yariel generated 13 whiffs out of his 83 pitches to produce six punchouts. The Toronto right-hander's ERA now stands at 4.63 across 23.1 innings with 23:13 K:BB. With this performance, Yariel is likely to draw another start over Bowden Francis. He currently lines up to make his next appearance against Seattle on the road this weekend. Yordan Alvarez hits his 17th home run in win. Yordan Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Monday's 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays. The Houston designated hitter provided two insurance runs by launching a 397-foot homer off Zach Pop in the ninth inning to extend the Astros' lead to 3-0. Alvarez has opened July nicely on the tails of a scorching June in which he hit .349 (30-for-86) with seven homers, 19 RBI and 20 runs scored. The 27-year-old's been the heart and soul of the Houston lineup this season, as expected, slashing .294/.372/.528 in 352 total plate appearances. José Iglesias homered in 6-run 10th inning. In a six-run 10th inning, José Iglesias hit a home run, helping the New York Mets secure a 9-7 victory over the Washington Nationals on Monday night. The win spoiled the major league debut of highly anticipated outfield prospect James Wood. Iglesias went 1-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored. During his last 11 games, Iglesias has batted 8-for-22, with plate appearances in only eight of those matches. In 48 plate appearances this season, he has a batting average of .400, along with nine RBI, seven runs, one stolen base, and four doubles. Iglesias is primarily competing for playing time at second base, where he is currently part of a platoon with Jeff McNeil. McNeil, who has been hitting .221 for the season and .211 in June, is currently receiving more playing time than Iglesias. Yanquiel Fernández continues to showcase his strength in the Minor Leagues. Colorado Rockies outfield prospect Yanquiel Fernández continued his strong season by going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and a two-run home run on Monday. Fernández, 21, is the 67th ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline rankings and he has backed that up by hitting .269 with seven home runs and 39 RBI over 219 at-bats this season. Fernández offers tons of raw power from the left side of the plate, but still needs to work on his aggressiveness at the plate. The outfielder's power is likely to translate in a big way at Coors Field when he eventually makes his big-league debut, which could come as soon as 2025.

  • MLB 2024 | Arozarena tallies 11th homer; The third save for Chapman; Blanco's 17th steal; Yariel starts against the Astros today; Daybel demoted again

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Randy Arozarena went 2-for-4 with a solo home run on Sunday against the Nationals. Arozarena went deep in the seventh inning to record his 11th homer of the season and third of June. The performance wrapped up a solid month, as he hit .291 with nine RBI, 10 runs scored and three stolen bases in 25 games. Arozarena is still hitting just .196 for the season, though there should be optimism his performance will improve across the second half of the campaign. He has a hit in 12 of his last 14 games and on Sunday became the fifth player this season to hit four balls at least 105 MPH in the same game joining Yordan Alvarez, Juan Soto, Ketel Marte, and Gunnar Henderson. The prolonged cold spell to start his season was scary, but it looks like Arozarena has finally found his way out of it. Aroldis Chapman allowed a run but still picked up a save Sunday against Atlanta. Chapman gave up a run on two hits in the ninth inning but still managed to pick up his third save Sunday against Atlanta. Chapman came in with a three-run lead in the ninth and worked in and out of trouble to grab his second save in his last four appearances. He gave up a sacrifice fly to Orlando Arcia, but it still left Atlanta down 4-2. It didn’t change the outcome of the game, but it did hurt his ERA, which climbed to 3.90. The veteran has taken over the Pirates' ninth-inning role since losing closer David Bednar to an oblique injury June 19th. There is still no timetable for Bednar's return, so Chapman is likely looking at a few more save opportunities in the meantime. The veteran Chapman has no wins, a 3.90 ERA, a 1.60 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 30 innings. Dairon Blanco swipes bag in win. Blanco went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Guardians. Blanco started for the first time since June 23, playing in place of MJ Melendez in left field against lefty Logan Allen. While he's not getting many at-bats, Blanco's speed remains top notch -- he logged six steals while going 4-for-23 over 14 contests in June. The outfielder has a .237/.289/.316 slash line with 17 thefts, one home run, four RBI, 20 runs scored and three doubles across 84 plate appearances in a reserve role this year. Yandy Díaz with a hit in Sunday's win. As Yandy' streak of consecutive hitting games ended last Saturday, he returned on Sunday with a 4-1 performance, in Rays' 4-0 victory over the Nationals. Yandy's only hit was a double off Patrick Corbin, his sixteenth of the season. After a rough start to the season, Yandy appears to be recovering and looking forward to a better second half. His slash line now stands at .271/.327/.387 with 7 HRs and 40 RBIs.  Jorge Soler and Andy Pagés both recorded hits on Sunday, while Miguel Vargas remained hitless. Soler went 2-for-4 in the Giants' 10-4 victory over the Dodgers. He contributed with an RBI, scored two runs, drew a walk, and had a strikeout. The powerful hitter is showing significant offensive improvement after a shaky start in 2024, boasting a slash line of .273/.339/.527 with 2 HRs and 13 RBIs in his last 15 games. In the same matchup, Pagés went 1-for-4 with a strikeout for the Dodgers, while Miguel Vargas came in as a substitute but went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Yariel Rodríguez starting today. Yariel Rodríguez is scheduled to start today's game against the Astros in Toronto, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reported. After returning from the 15-day injured list June 21 and giving up five runs (four earned) over 1.1 innings in a loss to Cleveland that day, Yariel made his next turn through the rotation this past Wednesday in Boston. However, with that game getting paused in the top of the second inning due to severe weather and later postponed, Rodríguez won't get credited with statistics for that game until the contest is resumed Aug. 26 as part of a split doubleheader. As a result, Monday's start against the Astros will officially be Yariel's second since he returned from the IL. Braves optioned RHP Daysbel Hernández to Triple-A Gwinnett. Hernandez was called up June 17, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings while striking out nine batters over six appearances out of Atlanta's bullpen. The right-hander will now head back to Gwinnett, but he'll likely get another shot with the big-league club down the road this season. This likely makes room for A.J. Minter to return Tuesday. Hernández loses his spot despite having allowed just one unearned run in 8 2/3 innings this season.

  • MLB 2024 | Lourdes homered; Yordan with three-hit night; Iglesias sang new OMG song at Citi Field; Yandy Díaz's hitting streak reaches 20 games

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in a loss to the A’s on Friday. Gurriel drove in a run in the first with an RBI single, and he clobbered a solo homer to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth; both of those hits coming off JP Sears. The veteran outfielder has been inconsistent — something that has followed him for most of his career — but the two-hit night has his slash line up to .267/.301/.422 with 11 homers, 47 RBI, 37 runs scored and three stolen bases over 76 contests this season. Gurriel's .723 OPS is still the lowest mark of his career, but he's been trending in the right direction for most of June after entering the month with a .642 OPS. Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, and a run scored on Friday against the Mets. Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Mets. The 27-year-old slugger consistently got himself into scoring position, but the rest of the Houston lineup had trouble bringing him around. Since missing a couple games earlier in the month to attend to a personal matter, Alvarez has gone 9-for-27 (.333) in seven contests with three doubles, two homers, four RBI and five runs. Friday's steal was also his career-high fourth of the season -- he came into 2024 with only two in 482 career games. Mets infielder José Iglesias wows fans by performing his song OMG following the team's victory. The tradition of musicians appearing at Mets games and performing songs associated with the team took a unique turn on Friday night when José Iglesias sang his song “OMG” following a 7-2 win over the Houston Astros in front of 32,465 fans at Citi Field. His new teammates immediately took a liking to the 34-year-old Iglesias as well as his song, which is played following every Mets homer at Citi Field and after every win. New York is 17-6 since he joined the team and moved over .500 Friday for the first time since May 2. Iglesias, who is hitting .389 in 36 at-bats and went 0-for-1 in the game, said he would not have performed the song Friday if the Mets lost. Andy Pagés shows speed with triple in Dodgers' loss. Andy Pagés went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored in the Dodgers' 5-3 loss to the Giants. Despite the team's defeat, Pagés managed to add a triple to his season tally, showcasing his potential for extra-base hits. This performance could hint at an uptick in his slugging, which has been modest given his .255 average and eight home runs over 63 games. His ability to hit for extra bases, combined with a relatively stable BABIP of .319, suggests that Pagés might still have some untapped potential. Yandy Díaz's hitting streak reaches 20 games. Yandy Díaz extended his hitting streak to 20 games on Friday by hitting a single in the third inning against left-hander Mitchell Parker. It was Díaz's only hit in the game, as he also struck out, but the single not only extended his streak but also set a new record for the team. Díaz is batting .338/.348/.515 with 3 HRs and 11 RBIs in his last 15 games. Luis Robert Jr. with one hit. Luis Robert Jr. went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a strikeout in the White Sox's 5-3 win over the Rockies. Robert still has fans concerned about his alarming .206 batting average and high strikeout rate (0.369). While the power numbers are decent, his overall production has been hampered by a low BABIP (.172), suggesting some bad luck at play. As the season progresses and Luis Robert receives increased playing time, there is a possibility for improvement as he aims to adapt and achieve more consistent contact. However, it is important to be realistic about expectations considering his current statistics. Yasmani Grandal went hitless on Friday. The Pirates lost 6-1 to Braves and Grandal went hitless on a 3-0 night. With only 36 games played this year, Grandal has hit just .176/.211/.269 with two home runs and 15 RBI.

  • MLB 2024 | Luis Robert Jr. hits eighth homer; Adolis with his number 15; Daysbel remains scoreless; Lourdes with another multi-hit game

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Luis Robert went 2-for-3 with a homer in a victory over Atlanta on Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader. Robert went 2-for-3 with a solo home run during Thursday's 1-0 win over Atlanta. Robert's eighth blast of the season came in the first inning off Chris Sale and was the only run to cross the plate on the day. It was just the fourth multi-hit game of the season for Robert, who missed a couple months earlier this season with a hip flexor strain. While Robert has struggled to the tune of a .204 average and 38 strikeouts over 114 plate appearances for the moribund White Sox, his AB/HR ratio of 12.9 is a career-best mark and portends to good things to come for the 26-year-old slugger. Adolis García hit a solo home run and went 1-for-4 in the game against the Orioles on Thursday. Adolis hit his 15th home run of the season. While this may not be Garcia's most outstanding season, he is demonstrating a consistent performance. Despite his .219 batting average, he is projected to achieve approximately 30 home runs, 15 stolen bases, and run totals in the mid-80s. Although Garcia is not replicating his exceptional performance from last year, he is still having a quite successful season. Daysbel Hernández remains scoreless once again. Daysbel pitched a scoreless eighth inning in the Atlanta Braves' 1-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox. He struck out one in an 18-pitch outing, with 12 strikes. This was the right-hander's eighth appearance of the season, solidifying his role as a reliable late-inning reliever for Atlanta. He now has 11 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings, maintaining his ERA unblemished while lowering his WHIP to 1.04. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had another game with multiple hits. In the D-backs' 13-6 loss to the Twins, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 3-2. Gurriel also drew a walk and scored a run. It marked Gurriel's 25th multihit game of the year, with 11 of them coming in June. In this month, he is batting .337/.356/.530 with 4 HRs and 14 RBIs.

  • MLB 2024 | Yandy extends hitting streak to 19; Gurriel Jr. triples in loss; Chapman and Iglesias Shine; Quero's powerful offense continues in the Minors

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI against the Twins on Wednesday. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was responsible for driving two out of the three runs for the D-Backs in their 8-3 loss against the Twins. His contributions included a triple in the fourth inning to bring in the first run of the game for Arizona. In the sixth inning, with a runner on third, he added another run with a sacrifice fly. The 30-year-old outfielder has accumulated 10 home runs and 45 RBIs while maintaining a batting average of .260/.293/.409 in 310 plate appearances. Yandy Díaz went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday in the Rays’ loss to the Mariners. By hitting a single in the first inning against George Kirby, Yandy extended his streak to 19 games and equaled the franchise record in the process. This also marked his eighth consecutive game with an RBI since June 19. He has proven to be an excellent catalyst, accumulating 40 RBIs from the leadoff position this season, making him one of just five players to achieve this milestone so far. The 32-year-old player, known for getting on base consistently, has been on fire in recent weeks, boasting a batting average of .353 (24-for-68) with three home runs and 11 RBIs in his last 15 games. Aroldis Chapman pitched a flawless ninth inning. Chapman had a strong performance in the ninth inning against the Reds on Wednesday, striking out two batters and keeping them from getting on base. He came into the game with a five-run lead, making it his first appearance since Saturday. Despite a rough start to the season, Chapman has shown consistency in his recent outings, particularly in June when he only allowed two earned runs in 8.2 innings while maintaining a solid 13:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. With David Bednar out, Chapman is expected to handle most of Pittsburgh's save opportunities. Yariel Rodríguez pitched in suspended game. Yariel Rodríguez started the game against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday but could only complete one inning due to the game being suspended in Boston due to rain. Yariel threw the first inning with 15 pitches, 8 of them strikes, delivering a scoreless inning with one walk. Yariel's highly anticipated debut in the Major Leagues has not gone as expected, as the Camagüey native holds a disappointing record of 0-2 with disastrous averages of a 5.94 ERA and 1.92 WHIP. Yordan Alvarez recorded one hit on Wednesday. In a 7-1 victory against the Rockies, Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-1. Yordan's sole hit was a double, his 17th of the year, before being replaced late in the game by Chas McCormick. Alvarez has had another strong start to the season with 16 HRs and 41 RBIs in 77 games, slashing .288/.360/.515 in 333 plate appearances. Raisel Iglesias pitches a scoreless inning. In a non-save situation, Raisel Iglesias completed an inning without allowing any runs in the Braves' 6-2 victory over the Cardinals in the first game of a doubleheader. Iglesias came in to protect a four-run lead and needed 17 pitches, 13 of which were strikes, to secure Atlanta's win. It was a perfect ninth inning where he struck out two batters, marking his eighth scoreless outing of the month out of nine. Miguel Vargas out of lineup Wednesday. Miguel Vargas did not feature in the Dodgers' lineup on Wednesday against the White Sox, following two consecutive starts. Despite reaching base twice with a hit and a walk in Tuesday's victory, Vargas finds himself back on the bench, as Teoscar Hernández takes over in left field for the Dodgers. Yasmani Grandal got the day off. Grandal was out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. Grandal got a breather for the day game Wednesday after he started behind the dish in each of the Pirates' last three contests. Edgar Quero is still showcasing his powerful hitting in Double-A Birmingham. Edgar Quero, a promising catcher prospect for the Chicago White Sox, hit a solo home run while going 1-for-4 in Double-A Birmingham on Wednesday. Ranked as the White Sox' No. 4 prospect, Quero has been on fire this month, boasting a .381 batting average with five home runs and 14 RBI in June. His impressive on-base percentage of .422 showcases why he is highly regarded as one of the top catcher prospects in the minor leagues. The 21-year-old, who was acquired from the Angels, appears to be the future catcher for the White Sox, having already accumulated 12 homers and 50 RBI at the Double-A level this season. With a strong case for a promotion to Triple-A, it seems likely that we could see Quero in Chicago behind the plate next year.

  • MLB 2024 | Yandy's hitting streak reaches 18 games; Pagés and Vargas once again in the starting lineup; Blanco gets his 15th steal; Zulueta debuts and gets sent down to the minors

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Yandy Díaz is also in a seven-game RBI streak. Yandy Díaz went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Mariners. Yandy led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, continuing his excellent run of recent production. He has gone deep three times in his last six starts and also has at least one RBI in seven straight games. Yandy also extended his hitting streak to 18 games, during which he's hit .358. Andy Ibáñez leads offense in win. Andy Ibáñez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Phillies. Ibáñez continued a strong June, as he's now batting .314 this month with six RBI and six runs scored across 15 games. The utility player is batting a solid .284 overall, and while he's not providing a ton of power, he has been a solid bat for the Tigers. Ibáñez's biggest question moving forward is playing time, though Detroit figures to find creative ways to get him into the lineup even if he's not locked into a regular starting role. Andy Pagés and Miguel Vargas were back in the starting lineup. Vargas and Pagés appeared in the Dodgers' starting lineup for the second straight game. It was a 4-3 victory over the White Sox this time. Playing in left field, Pagés went hitless batting 0-for-4, while Vargas repeated a 1-for-2 night with a walk. Although both Cuban players are part of the Dodgers' new promotion, neither has a secure role with the cast, with Pagés playing more regularly. While Pagés is hitting .254/.305/.412 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs in his first season in the Majors, Vargas, who debuted in 2022 with the Dodgers, has a slash line of .344/.405/.563 with six home runs and six RBIs. Vargas has been more active in June, participating in eight games and hitting safely in seven, still in a limited role but with an active five-game hitting streak. Dairon Blanco notches 15th steal. Dairon Blanco stole a base as a pinch runner in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Marlins. The steal was Blanco's 15th of the year and his fourth over 11 contests in June. The outfielder remains confined to a bench role, and he's gone just 3-for-19 with one walk and six strikeouts this month. For the year, he's slashing .236/.291/.319 with one home run, four RBI and 18 runs scored over 80 plate appearances while seeing action in 46 contests. Yosver Zulueta debuted as Cuban pitcher 177th in the Majors. Several hours later, the Reds optioned Zulueta to Triple-A Louisville. Yosver Zulueta debuted in the major leagues during Tuesday's 9-5 defeat against the Pirates, becoming the 177th Cuban pitcher to play in the Majors. During his relief appearance, he recorded four strikeouts and conceded one run across three innings. The following morning, the Reds sent Zulueta down to Triple-A Louisville to make room for Graham Ashcraft, who was called up to start the series finale against Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Zulueta is likely to be called up again by the Reds when they require a reliever, given his impressive performance showcasing his powerful fastball, effective sinker, and precise slider. Yariel Rodríguez to start today against Boston. The Toronto Blue Jays will start rookie pitcher Yariel Rodríguez against the Boston Red Sox today. Yariel has made five starts and is (0-2) with a 5.94 ERA and a staggering 1.92 WHIP over 16 2/3 innings, striking out 17 and walking 11. He lasted only 1 1/3 innings against the Guardians on June 21, allowing five runs (four earned) on two hits. Rodríguez has yet to go beyond four innings in any of his starts. Yariel has shown flashes of potential, but not enough to get a role in any MLB starting rotation, at least not yet. Randy Arozarena got the day off. Arozarena was out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners. Arozarena got his first true day off of June on Tuesday, with Josh Lowe filling in at DH while Jonny DeLuca played left field. The 29-year-old has hit 10 home runs and stolen 10 bases, but he's batting just .191 (51-for-267) on the year after making his first All-Star appearance in 2023. The good news is that he could be pulling out of his season-long slump, as he's gone 11-for-33 (.333) with two home runs, three doubles, seven RBI, three stolen bases and five runs scored in his last 10 games, where he has generated a hit in nine of his those games. Don't give up on Arozarena just yet in 2024. Lázaro Montes promoted to High-A. Seattle Mariners outfield prospect Lázaro Montes is being promoted to High-A Everett. Montes has been one of the best players in the minor leagues through the opening months of the 2024 campaign with a .309/.411/.527 slash line and 13 long balls, 72 RBI, one swiped bag, and a 43:59 BB:K ratio. Montes posted similar numbers in his first taste of Single-A ball last summer with a .321/.429/.565 line. The 19-year-old was very consistent at Single-A this season and never posted a monthly batting average below .250. He held several extended hitting streaks, including an eight-game streak from May 25 to June 2.

  • MLB 2024 | Yandy extends hitting streak to 17 games; Adolis homered; Morejón blew a save; Daysbel scoreless again; Vargas with one hit; Zulueta will be called up

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Yandy Díaz extends hitting streak to 17 games. Yandy Díaz came through with a tie-breaking RBI single in the eighth inning on Monday, propelling the Rays to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Mariners. Yandy Díaz capped off Tampa Bay’s late-inning rally by chopping a go-ahead run-scoring single into right field off Seattle closer Andrés Muñoz. The 32-year-old on-base machine has heated up at the dish of late, notching multi-hit performances in five of his last six games since June 19. He’s also homered twice during that span, just for good measure. Adolis García goes deep in loss. Adolis García went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's loss to the Brewers. Garcia gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead with his sixth-inning blast, though the advantage was wiped out on a Rhys Hoskins grand slam in the bottom of the frame. As with Hoskins, García's homer ended an extended power drought -- the outfielder hadn't gone deep in any of his past 17 games and had driven in just one run during that span. García is tied for the Rangers' lead with 14 long balls on the season, but he's below pace to match the 39 homers and 107 RBI he racked up last year. On Monday, Adrián Morejón blew a save against the Nationals. On Monday, Morejón allowed one run on three hits and struck out one while pitching an inning against the Nationals. In the seventh inning, Morejón's run helped the Nationals tie the game 3-3. Padres walk-off victory over Nats with four runs in the bottom of the 10th inning. However, among the six batters Morejón faced, three reached base. It was Morejón's first blowout save in 25 appearances this season, despite allowing four runs over 11.2 innings this month. Aledmys Díaz went 0-for-3 with a strikeout as Oakland’s No. 9 hitter Monday against the Angels. The A’s got ridiculously lucky that someone took Jace Peterson off their hands last summer, so they’ll keep giving Díaz the occasional start in the hopes that lightning will strike twice. The 33-year-old Díaz is 3-for-27 since returning from a calf injury on May 28. He hit .229/.280/.337 last year in the first season of a two-year, $14.5 million contract. Daysbel Hernández went scoreless once again. The right-hander pitcher continued his scoreless streak this week by pitching 1 2/3 innings against St. Louis in a 4-3 loss on Monday. In addition to striking out two, he allowed one hit. With a ratio of 10:3 SO:BB, Diasbel keeps his ERA blank in 7 2/3 innings and 7 games this season. Miguel Vargas with one hit Monday. The Los Angeles Dodgers started Miguel Vargas in left field for Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Vargas batted sixth and went 1-for-2 leaving his slash line in .333/.382/.567 for the year while he is compiling a .412 BA (7-for-17) in his last 7 games. Yosver Zulueta is ready for MLB debut with the Reds. The Reds are expected to recall Yosver Zulueta from Triple-A Louisville prior to Tuesday's game against the Pirates. Once a top pitching prospect in the Blue Jays system, Zulueta's development was sidetracked by Tommy John surgery in 2019 and a right knee injury that kept him out for most of the 2021 season. He was cast off the Blue Jays' 40-man roster in March and was scooped up by the Reds, who optioned him to Louisville coming out of spring training. The 26-year-old righty has thrived out of the Triple-A bullpen this season, riding an upper-90s fastball and plus slider to a 2.84 ERA and 40 punchouts over 31.2 innings. Zulueta has exhibited some control problems both this season (14.5 percent walk rate) and throughout his minor-league career, so the Reds may be inclined to deploy him in lower-leverage spots initially. Mariners promoted OF prospect Lázaro Montes to High-A Everett. Lázaro Montes’ meteoric rise continues as he earns a promotion to High-A after slashing a robust .309/.411/.527 with 13 homers, 72 RBI and one steal in 309 plate appearances over 65 games for Low-A Modesto to open the year. The 19-year-old prodigy could find himself in the upper minors by the end of the 2024 campaign and is rapidly emerging as one of the top prospects in the league.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. logs fifth straight multi-hit game. Gurriel went 2-for-4 in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Phillies.Gurriel returned to action after sitting out Saturday with minor elbow soreness. Yandy Díaz went 3-for-4 and homered off Paul Skenes as the Rays topped the Pirates 3-1 on Sunday. Yandy went 3-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Pirates. Yandy tagged Pirates starter Paul Skenes early, depositing the first pitch of the game off the foul pole in right field for his sixth homer of the season. He later led off the eighth with his third hit, which eventually saw pinch runner José Caballero cross the plate with the go-ahead run. Yandy extended his hitting streak to 16 games in the process, collecting his ninth multiple-hit effort during that stretch and fourth multi-hit game over the last five. He's batting 26-for-71 (.366) during the streak. Néstor Cortés allowed three earned runs across seven innings Sunday against the Braves. He struck out seven and walked none as a tough-luck loser. Cortés (4-6) was saddled with the loss Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings against Atlanta. He struck out seven. Cortés mostly held the Atlanta bats in check to put together his third consecutive quality start and the ninth time this season he's struck out six or more batters, but the Yankees failed to provide any run support and Cortés was left with his sixth loss. Outside of a solo home run by Jarred Kelenic in the third, Cortés' only real trouble came in the fifth, when he allowed two runs on three hits. However, he finished his day strong by retiring all six batters faced in the sixth and seventh. Cortés has tossed 100.2 innings across 17 starts, accumulating 93 strikeouts. He'll take a 3.40 ERA and 1.07 WHIP into his next start, scheduled to take place when the Yankees head to Toronto for a four-game weekend set against the division-rival Blue Jays. Robert was not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against Detroit. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Sunday that it was a scheduled day off for Robert as the 26-year-old outfielder eases his way back from his IL stint due to a hip flexor strain, per Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. Since returning from the injured list June 4, Robert is slashing .180/.275/.459 with five home runs and seven RBI over 61 at-bats. José Iglesias was sitting Sunday for New York. New York Mets infielder José Iglesias was not in the lineup Sunday in the team's game against the Chicago Cubs. Iglesias was replaced at third base by Mark Vientos versus Cubs starter Javier Assad. In 38 plate appearances this season Iglesias has a .400 batting average with a .905 OPS.

  • MLB 2024 | Yordan hit his 16th homer; Chapman collects second save; Yandy extends hitting streak; Colás demoted

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Yordan Alvarez hit a two-run homer to help the Astros defeat the Orioles on Saturday. Alvarez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Orioles. Alvarez has gone 4-for-12 with two homers over three games since returning from a family matter. The slugger has hit seven of his 16 long balls this season over 17 games in June, batting .359 (23-for-64) in that span. He's up to a .292/.363/.525 slash line, 41 RBI, 43 runs scored and three stolen bases over 74 contests. Aroldis Chapman picked up a save against the Rays on Saturday despite allowing a run in his inning of work. Chapman gave up a run on a hit and a walk in the ninth inning Saturday to record his second save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Rays. He struck out one. David Bednar is dealing with some tightness in his side and was unavailable, leaving ninth-inning duties to his 36-year-old set-up man. Chapman walked the first batter he faced before surrendering an RBI double to Yandy Diaz, but the southpaw got Isaac Paredes to ground out to end the threat. Chapman has been scored upon only twice in his last 10 appearances, posting a 1.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB through 9.2 innings over that stretch. Bednar's injury isn't considered serious, but Chapman should handle closing duties until he's ready to return. Adolis García with one hit Saturday. Adolis García went 1-for-4 with a RBI, a run scored, and a strikeout Saturday in a 6-0 victory against the Royals. During 72 games, Adolis is sitting with an average of 4.1 plate appearances per contest, 0.7 base hits and 1.5 total bases on the year. He holds a batting average of .213, and has a .273 on-base percentage . Adolis' slugging percentage sits at .399 for the season, and he is sitting with an OPS of .672, exactly 100 point less than about two months ago. He has been at the plate 297 times on the season, and has amassed 13 homeruns with 41 RBIs, which means he is still productive. Yandy Díaz extends his hitting streak. Yandy Díaz doubled off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning to extend his consecutive game hitting streak to 15. It was Yandy's only hit of the afternoon, as he went 1 for 5 with an RBI and a strikeout. Yasmani Grandal did not start Saturday. Yasmani Grandal wasn't in the Pirates' lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays. Grandal took a seat Saturday after going 0-for-1 and drawing two walks during Friday's loss in the series opener. Jason Delay took over behind the plate and batted ninth. In 102 plate appearances this season, Grandal has a .188 batting average with a .519 OPS. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was sitting Saturday. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. wasn't in Arizona's lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies. Gurriel was removed from Friday's game due to a sore left elbow, and it is seemingly bothering him enough to keep him from playing Saturday, though the D-backs don't believe his injury to be anything too serious. This season, Gurriel has a .260 batting average with a .701 OPS in 299 plate appearances. Miguel Vargas was not in lineup for Dodgers on Saturday. Miguel Vargas was sitting Saturday in the team's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Vargas was replaced in left field by Teoscar Hernández versus Angels starter Zach Plesac. In 32 plate appearances this season, Vargas has a .321 batting average with a .946 OPS. White Sox optioned OF Oscar Colás to Triple-A Charlotte. It’s been a struggle this season for Colás to carve out consistent playing time at the highest level as he’s batted a serviceable .273/.368/.273 with four RBI in 38 plate appearances over 13 games for the White Sox. It’s possible he’ll get more of an extended look once the club moves on from some of their veteran outfielder at the trade deadline in a couple weeks.

  • MLB 2024 | Three hits for Yordan, including a home run; Yandy with his fifth homer; Gurriel Jr. has a multi-hit game; Colás could be demoted to the minors

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Yordan Alvarez homered and went 3-for-5 with two RBI in a 5-3 victory for Houston over the White Sox on Thursday. Alvarez smoked a homer in the first inning off Chris Flexen to give the Astros a 1-0 lead, and he tied the game at 3-3 with his single in the seventh. The 26-year-old outfielder has now driven in 39 runs, and it’s the 15th homer of the campaign. Simply put, Alvarez is one of the best hitters in baseball. Yandy Díaz hit a two-run homer and doubled in an extra-inning loss to the Rays on Thursday. Díaz went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Twins. Díaz absolutely clobbered a two-run homer that went an estimated 439 feet to extend the Rays’ lead to 6-2 in the ninth. It turns out the Rays would need those runs, as Minnesota scored four to tie it in the bottom half of the frame. Díaz collected two hits extending his hitting streak to 13 games and his on-base streak to 22 games in the process. He's batting .351 over the course of the hitting streak, though he has just one home run, one double, four RBI and six runs scored to show for his efforts. Díaz is starting to heat up again, and he’s been much better than the .264/.327/.368 slash suggests after his slow start. A one-hit night for Andy Pagés. In the Dodgers' 5-3 victory over Colorado, Pagés went 1-for-5. His only hit was his 11th double of the season, which pushed him into 22 RBIs. As a first-year player, he now has a batting line of .264/.318/.429, but his 11 doubles and 8 home runs are a better reflection of what the Dodgers require of him. June continues to be a hot month for Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Gurriel went 2-for-5 in the D-backs' 5-2 victory over the Nationals on Thursday. Additionally, he struck out. With a slash line of .323/.343/.492, 3 HRs and 11 RBIs in June, Gurriel is righting his 2024 season after putting up offensive lines of .219/.261/.314 and .213/.245/.287 in April and May, respectively. During this time period he has achieved eight multi-hit games and has hit .339/.362/.429 with 9 RBIs in his last 15 games. Currently, he has 72 hits and 42 RBIs, which puts him on track to reach 100 hits for the fourth consecutive year and 80 RBIs for the third time in his career. Oscar Colás could head back to the minors soon. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Thursday that Colás may be optioned to Triple-A Charlotte soon in order to play on an everyday basis, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reported. Colás hasn't started a game in a week, and while Grifol said he plans to put the outfielder in the lineup soon, he admitted that it might be more beneficial for the 25-year-old to go back to the minors. The outfielder has gone 9-for-30 at the plate during his limited chances with the White Sox this season, although all nine hits have been singles. Chicago will be sellers at the trade deadline, and playing time for Colás could open up at that point. Miguel Vargas started in left field and batted seventh for the Dodgers on Thursday. With the Dodgers facing left-hander Ty Blach, Vargas played left field with Jason Heyward getting the day off. He went 1-for-3 collecting his 6th RBI of the season. Vargas has some intriguing plate discipline and power growth this season in the minors, but the Dodgers seem unlikely to play him against right-handed pitching, which will limit him at the MLB level. Truthfully, he could develop more if he played for a team that wasn't fighting for the championship.

  • MLB 2024 | Randy Arozarena: swipes two bags; Soler clubs Grand Slam; Pagés with multi-hit game; Yordan remained out on Wednesday

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources Randy Arozarena singled, doubled, walked, was hit by a pitch, scored a run and stole a pair of bases on Wednesday night, leading the Rays to a 3-2 victory over the Twins in 10 innings. After striking out in his first at-bat on the night, Arozarena reached base in each of his final four plate appearances. He led off the fourth inning with a double, but the Rays couldn’t cash him in. He then singled and swiped second base with two outs in the sixth inning, but was left stranded there. He then led off the eighth inning with a walk but was stranded at third base. Arozarena was plunked leading off the 10th inning, he swiped second base and scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by Royce Lewis. Arozarena extended his hitting streak to a modest five games with the performance. He's been very productive in that span, swatting two homers while also swiping two bags, scoring five runs and driving in five. Even with the encouraging stretch, Arozarena has only a .293 wOBA and .185 batting average on the season. Also with his two-hit attack, the 29-year-old outfielder is now hitting .185/.299/.345 to go along with 10 homers, 25 RBI and nine stolen bases on the season. Another scoreless inning from Atlanta's Daysbel Hernández. Andy Ibáñez with two hits for Detroit. As he pitched for the Braves, Daysbel continued to go scoreless. With two strikeouts, Daysbel completed a perfect eighth inning in a 7-0 win over Detroit. The Cuban reliever, who is trying to establish himself in the Majors with the competitive National League East team, has now pitched five scoreless innings in five games. He owns a 7/3 SO/BB ratio. In the same game Andy Ibáñez went 2-for-4 with a strikeout for Detroit. Ibáñez, who is playing first base for Detroit, is hitting .310/.333/.414 in June and overall in 2024 has a slash line of .282/.309/.398 with two homers and 16 RBIs in 41 games and 110 PA. Jorge Soler walloped a grand slam on Wednesday in the Giants’ loss to the Cubs. Soler went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. With his team down 6-1 in the eighth inning, Soler took Tyson Miller deep to make things interesting, but the Giants couldn't tie it up late. The veteran slugger has found a groove in June, slashing .298/.403/.526 through 16 games this month with three of his nine homers and 10 of his 26 RBI on the season. Andy Pagés with multi-hit game. Pagés se apuntó otro multi-hit game en la derrota de los Dodgers 6-7 ante los Rockies. Pagés went 2-for-5 with a run scored despite striking out three times. Andy Pages has faced many hurdles since making his MLB debut on April 16 as he settles into life in the big leagues. While he has staked his claim for a starting outfield spot, the 23-year-old could be a real game changer if he is consistent at the plate in the second half. After hitting 31 home runs at High-A in 2021, and 26 home runs and 80 RBIs at Double-A in 2022, his raw power can't be matched by many of the other young players in the game today. Yankees hit hard Orioles' relievers Cionel Pérez and Yennier Cano. Against the Yankees on Wednesday, Cionel and Cano had some poor performances. Cionel, who despite his poor work scored his seventh hold of the year, gave away two walks to load the bases in the 6th inning. After dominating pinch-hitter Jahmai Jones with a fly ball to center field, he began accepting consecutive singles from Anthony Volpe and Juan Soto an inning later. The Orioles eventually replaced him, but both players scored when Yennier Cano came to pitch and accepted Giancarlo Stanton's three-run homer. Neither pitcher was in his usual form. During Cionel's 1/3 inning of work, he had two hits and two walks, raising his ERA to 4.87, while Cano - who got his 18th hold of the year - only allowed one unearned run - Stanton's HR - with a walk. In the outing, no one struck out a batter. Luis Robert swipes second bag. Robert went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base Wednesday against the Astros. Robert has popped five home runs in 14 games since returning from the injured list, but he's otherwise been a poor hitter at the moment. He has a 39.3 percent strikeout in that span and is hitting just .184. Positively, on Wednesday Robert did swipe his first base since returning and his second of the season. A multi-hit game for Lourdes Gurriel Jr. In Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Nationals, Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a strikeout. This was Gurriel Jr.'s seventh multi-hit game in June, a month where he owns a slash line of .317/.339/.500, with 8 runs, 3 HRs, and 11 RBIs. RBIs. Yordan Alvarez (family matter) remained out of the Astros’ starting lineup on Wednesday. The 26-year-old slugger missed Tuesday’s game due to a family matter and is still away from the club on Wednesday. Edgar Quero is heating up. White Sox catcher prospect Edgar Quero is heating up in a big way in June for Double-A Birmingham. He is coming off a five-hit, three-RBI game on Tuesday at Rickwood Field and is hitting .467 this month with four homers and 13 RBI. The White Sox' No. 4 prospect is one of the purest hitting catcher prospects in the game. The Cuban looks to be the catcher of the future for Chicago after coming over from the Angels in a July trade that sent Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López to Los Angeles. Quero is hitting .284 with 11 homers and 49 RBI for Birmingham this season and looks like he could be a future star behind the plate.
