  • MLB 2022 | Adolis two RBI (94) in win,Moncada slugs 11th HR, Yandy day-to-day, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Sep 21, 2022 Rangers' Adolis García: Two hits, two RBI in win. García went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 victory over the Angels. The 29-year-old broke out of a 1-for-12 skid with two hits and two RBI Wednesday, including an RBI double to put the Rangers on top 3-2 in the third inning. The two RBI Wednesday give him 94 on the season, good for third in the majors among outfielders. García is batting .222 (14-for-63) with four home runs, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored in 18 games this month. White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Slugs 11th homer. Moncada went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Guardians. Moncada took Triston McKenzie deep in the fourth inning to tally his 11th homer of the season. Moncada has a disappointing season overall, though he's hitting .305 with four home runs, eight RBI and 10 runs scored in 13 starts since returning from the injured list. Unfortunately, Moncada had a tough day at the office defensively, making mental errors over some routine plays that allowed the Guardians to capitalize in a 8-2 victory. Randy Arozarena was back in the Rays' starting lineup on Wednesday. There is a rumor floating around that Arozarena got into a scuffle in the parking lot with teammate Yandy Díaz on Monday, which is why both players were held out of action on Tuesday. Arozarena was back in there Wednesday versus the Astros and went 2-for-4 with two strikoeuts leaving his BA for the season in .266. White Sox' José Abreu and Yasmani Grandal: Combined for three hits on Wednesday. Abreu went 1-for-4 while Grandal was 2-for-3 in a 8-2 loss to the Guardians on Wednesday night. In a White Sox team that is loaded of "good" hitters but that doesn't really work as a team, Abreu is leading the way, once again, with slash line of .308/.382/.450 15 HR and 72 RBI. Meanwhile, Grandal is just glad to be back in the starting lineup, after missing part of the season with an injury. He is slashing .206/.307/.277 in 90 games with only 5 HR and 26 RBI. Yandy Díaz was held out of the Rays starting lineup for the second consecutive game on Wednesday due to soreness in his left shoulder. Díaz didn't start Wednesday against the Astros due to left shoulder soreness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported. Díaz was on the bench for a second consecutive matchup Wednesday, but his absence from Tuesday's lineup was partially due to the fact that he got into an altercation with teammate Randy Arozarena in the parking lot following Monday's game. It's not yet clear whether Díaz will be available off the bench Thursday, but he should tentatively be considered day-to-day. Astros' Aledmys Díaz: Drives in pair. Díaz went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Rays. Díaz opened the scoring for Houston with an RBI single in the first inning, and he added another run-scoring knock in the eighth frame. Though he doesn't have a consistent defensive home, Díaz has started five of nine games since being activated from the injured list. In that span, he's hit .333 with two homers, six RBI and three runs scored. Astros' Yordan Álvarez and Yuli Gurriel: Hitless against the Rays. Álvarez and Gurriel went 0-for-7 combined, in a 5-2 victory against the Rays on Wednesday. Álvarez walked and struck out once, while Gurriel continues his terrible 2022 season that has him now slashing .148/.148/.185 with 5 strikeouts and just one RBI in his last 7 games. Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Hitless on Wednesday. Miguel Vargas went 0-for-3 on Wednesday in a 6-1 loss to the D-backs. Vargas was victim of veteran starter Madison Bumgarner and reliever Kevin Ginkel, whom dominated him - and the Dodgers - all night. Vargas slash line of .156/.182/.188 isn't important right now, and he must seize every opportunity he receives and prepare for a promising 2023 season. Luis Robert was once again absent from the White Sox starting lineup for Wednesday's tilt against the Guardians. It seems as though the 25-year-old is simply going to have to play through the nagging soreness in his left hand/wrist for the remainder of the season -- and will get plenty of days off on the nights where he isn't feeling up to it. AJ Pollock started in his place in center field and batted seventh against Triston McKenzie and the Guardians on Wednesday. Reds' José Barrero: Didn't start Wednesday. Barrero wasn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox. Barrero started the last three games and went 2-for-12 with a run and five strikeouts. He got a breather while Spencer Steer started at shortstop and batted seventh.

  • MLB 2022 | Chapman earns win, Cortés no-decision, Cionel with another scoreless inning, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Sep 20, 2022 Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Earns win in relief. Chapman (3-3) earned the win with a scoreless inning Tuesday against the Pirates. He struck out one and did not walk a batter. In his second appearance since being reinstated from the injured list, Chapman pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn his third win of the season. The outing likely was intended to just get the veteran some work, but the Yankees pulled off a remarkable comeback capped off by a walkoff grand slam by Giancarlo Stanton to secure Chapman's win. With Clay Holmes looking shakier of late, Chapman may well find himself back in the closer role if he strings together a couple more scoreless outings. Néstor Cortés allowed one run over five innings Tuesday in a no-decision versus the Pirates as the Yankees came back to win 9-8. Cortés wasn't very overly sharp, walking a couple batters and needing 87 pitches to cover his five frames. The lone run he surrendered came home on a sac fly in the fourth inning, but it could have been much worse as it was just a couple feet shy of being a grand slam. All told, it's a nice outing considering the lefty didn't have his best stuff. He'll face the Red Sox at home on Sunday. Orioles' Cionel Pérez: Another scoreless inning. Cionel Pérez threw another scoreless inning, his #13 consecutive since August 17, in a 3-2 loss to the Tigers on Tuesday. Pérez used only 10 pitches - 7 of them for strikes - with a strikeout. The young lefty has been exceptional this year, compiling a 7-1 record with one save, an 1.36 ERA, 49 strikeouts in 53 innings, and a total of 25 holds. Lourdes Gurriel (hamstring) remains a bit behind in his running progression. Gurriel (hamstring) could return to action Thursday, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports. Gurriel is not with Toronto for its ongoing series against the Phillies, but he is planning to join his team Thursday and could be activated from the injured list the same day. Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Action in one of the doubleheader games. Vargas saw action in one of the doubleheader games the Dodgers had against Arizona on Tuesday. In a 6-5 win against the D-backs, Vargas went 2-for-5 with his 3rd RBI of the season and a run. Vargas played left field and in his MLB season debut has a slash line of .172/.200/.207 in just 9 games and 29 AB with the Dodgers. Randy Arozarena and Yandy Díaz, absent from the Rays' starting lineup on Tuesday against the Astros. Arozarena was back in the Rays' starting lineup on Monday after dealing with a non-COVID illness over the weekend. It's unclear whether he's still feeling a bit under the weather. There should be an update on his status at some point soon. Yandy Díaz also took a seat on Tuesday evening. Yordan Álvarez was not in the Astros' starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays. Álvarez has dealt with lingering hand issues throughout the 2022 campaign, but this appears to be a routine maintenance day after the Astros clinched their fifth AL West title in the last six years on Monday night. The 25-year-old fantasy superstar is hitting .304/.406/.626 with 91 runs scored, a career-high 37 home runs, 94 RBI and one stolen base across 515 plate appearances this season. White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Out of Tuesday's lineup. Grandal was not in Tuesday's lineup against the Guardians, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reported. Grandal is hitting .205 with two home runs in 13 games this month. Seby Zavala started behind the dish. Rockies' Jose Iglesias: Getting closer to return. Iglesias (thumb) is feeling better and getting closer to making a return, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reported. Manager Bud Black still has yet to announce a timetable for Iglesias, but the news of progress is still good for a Rockies team that has been plagued with injuries to its best players late in the season. Alan Trejo continues to mash in his absence, slashing .308/.372/.538 with seven RBI since arriving to Colorado earlier this month.

  • MLB 2022 | Álvarez reached 94 RBI, Iglesias scoreless vs. the Nats, Soler avoids surgery, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Sep 19, 2022 Astros' Yordan Álvarez and Yuli Gurriel: One hit on Monday. Yandy Díaz: Hitless. Álvarez and Gurriel went 1-for-8 combined on Monday's 4-0 victory against Tampa Bay. Álvarez had the only hit of the pair in the game - an RBI single to right field -and also scored a run. It was Álvarez' RBI #94 of the year. Late in the game he was replaced by Mauricio Dubón. Meanwhile Gurriel was 0-for-4 with a strikeout, leaving his BA in .244 for the season. In the same game, for Tampa, Yandi Díaz went hitless with his walk #77 of the year, and two strikeouts. Yandy' slash line this season is .292/.399/.419 with 9 HR, and 54 RBI. Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Scoreless inning on Monday. Iglesias pitched a scoreless inning on Monday's 5-2 win against the Nationals. Iglesias threw 19 pitches, 12 of them strikes, while allowing a single with two strikeouts. In his last 21 games Iglesias has a 0.46 ERA in 19.2 innings, with 4 walks, and 24 strikeouts. Randy Arozarena went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Monday in his return to the Rays' lineup. Tampa Bay's lineup managed just five hits in a shutout loss to the Astros as Luis Garcia, Hunter Brown and Héctor Neris combined on a shutout. Arozarena was back in the Rays' lineup after sitting out Sunday's series-ending victory over the Rangers due to a non-COVID illness. Marlins' Jorge Soler: Avoiding surgery. Soler (back) won't require offseason surgery and will take part in core-strengthening work for the next three weeks before resuming baseball activities, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reported. Soler has already been shut down for the 2022 season, but assuming he experiences no setbacks in his strengthening work over the next few weeks, he should be in line for a relatively normal offseason. The 30-year-old is expected to exercise his $15 million player option for 2023 this winter after a disappointing inaugural campaign in Miami in which he posted a .695 OPS over 305 plate appearances.

  • Dodgers: Top LA Prospect Selected as Minor League Player of the Year

On Wednesday, Baseball America had selected Miguel Vargas as Minor League Player for the Year for the second year in a row. by Kristilyn Hetherington/Sports Illustrated Every year Miguel Vargas inches closer and closer to claiming a well-deserved spot on the active roster with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 22-year-old got his big major league debut this year while also leading the way as the No. 3 prospect in the Dodgers farm system. In 113 games, Vargas batted .304/.404/.511 with 17 home runs, 16 stolen bases, 71 walks, and 76 strikeouts. During his time in Dodger Blue since his debut on August 8th, he scored 1 run off 3 hits but is unlikely to clinch a roster spot for the postseason. Nonetheless, the young Cuban slugger still remains the future of Dodger baseball surrounded by both Bobby Miller and Diego Cartaya. “I’m lucky. I have a great staff in the Dodgers’ organization and they helped me a lot. Then I had a lot of veteran guys (as teammates)." Some of these experienced players he's referring to include Kevin Pillar, Jake Lamb, Eddy Alvarez, Andy Burns, and Tony Wolters who have helped him along his minor league journey. Additionally, Vargas has rotated around many positions this year just trying to increase his caliber and discover his role with the team. He played a little third base, first base, and second base in the minors and even added left field. He handled the assignment well and might even secure the outfield as a primary spot moving forward. Dave Roberts was very impressed with the kid's ability to jump between the major and minor leagues a few times this season while doing exactly what was expected of him in OKC. "He has a slow heartbeat. This whole third deck doesn’t bother him...He’s a student of the game. He loves watching baseball, learning. That’s something that I thought and has been validated. He’s special in the batter’s box because he has the hit tool. He can manipulate the barrel. He can hit to all fields. Righthanded spin doesn’t affect him. And he has a simple, sound swing. He does everything. He hunts pitches. He values the walk. He does everything a young hitter is supposed to do. He’ll be special for a long time.” While the Los Angeles team is holding it down through the 2022 season, the future is bright for the franchise with players like Miguel Vargas to lead the way.

  • MLB 2022 | Colás bumped up to AAA, Álvarez stays hot in series finale, Oviedo no-decision, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Sep 18, 2022 The White Sox promoted 24-year-old outfield prospect Oscar Colás to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday. Colás has excelled in his first season stateside, slashing a robust .309/.367/.516 with 21 homers, 75 RBI and two stolen bases over 488 plate appearances between High-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham. He should enter spring training in 2023 with a strong shot at securing a starting job in the White Sox outfield. Yordan Álvarez doubled twice and knocked in four runs against the A's on Sunday. Alvarez went 2-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI, a run and a strikeout during Sunday's 11-2 win over Oakland. It's not just homers; Álvarez has six doubles and six walks to go along with his six long balls in his last nine games. He's up to .304/.407/.630 with 37 homers and 93 RBI in 511 plate appearances. Only Aaron Judge has a better slugging percentage this year, and it's just Judge and Paul Goldschmidt ahead of him in OBP. Johan Oviedo surrendered three runs in four innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Mets. Oviedo fanned six today, but he also walked four and factored into a benches-clearing incident by plunking Pete Alonso on his hard-plastic elbow pad. He's walked a total of 14 batters in 13 2/3 innings for the Pirates, though he has a decent 3.69 ERA anyway. He'll face the Cubs next. Randy Arozarena was not in the Rays starting lineup Sunday against the Rangers. Arozarena took the day off and David Peralta got the start in left field. The 27-year-old is reportedly feeling under the weather, but is available off the bench if needed. Luis Robert (hand/wrist) was not in the White Sox starting lineup Sunday against the Tigers. Robert has played sporadically as he continues to deal with soreness in his left hand. After going 0-for-4 on Saturday, he sat out Sunday's series finale against the Tigers. AJ Pollock took over in center field. With an off day on Monday, Robert has a good chance to be back in there for Tuesday's contest against the Guardians. White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Sitting Sunday. Grandal was not in Sunday's lineup against the Tigers, James Fegan of The Athletic reported. Grandal is hitting .205 with two home runs in 13 games this month. Seby Zavala started behind the dish. Sep 17, 2022 Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Works scoreless inning in return. Chapman pitched a scoreless inning against the Brewers on Saturday, allowing one walk and striking out one batter. Chapman missed nearly a month due to a leg infection, but he was reinstated Friday and made his return to the mound Saturday. The veteran reliever was used in a low-leverage situation in the seventh inning, so it appears that the Yankees will ease him back before potentially giving him high-leverage work (though likely not as a closer, since Clay Holmes has taken hold of that role). Though Chapman didn't allow any runs in his return, he threw only nine of 17 pitches for strikes and walked a batter. Control has been been a major issue for Chapman this season -- his 6.5 K/9 is on pace to be his worst mark since 2011 and is fifth-worst among MLB pitchers who have thrown at least 30 innings. Blue Jays' Lourdes Gurriel: Resumes baseball activities. Gurriel (hamstring) has resumed baseball activities, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reported. Gurriel hasn't yet begun running, but he's been cleared to hit and play catch. The 28-year-old is eligible to return from the 10-day injured list as early as Sunday, but interim manager John Schneider emphasized Friday that the team will need to see how Gurriel feels after this weekend before determining when he'll be activated.

  • MLB 2022 | Yandy 4-game hitting streak, Cionel 20th hold, Norge back in the big leagues, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Aug 31, 2022 Yandy Díaz reached all five times up Wednesday, going 3-for-3 with two walks as the Rays edged the Marlins 2-1 in 10 innings. The second walk was intentional in the 10th and preceded Manuel Margot's go-ahead single. Díaz's OBP is all of the way up to .395 in 482 plate appearances. He now has a four-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 8-for-17 with a home run, two RBI and six runs scored. Diaz is hitting .283/.389/.416 across 478 plate appearances on the season. He has limitations elsewhere, but as long as the Rays keep playing him regularly and hitting him at the top of the order, he has mixed-league value. Luis Robert (wrist) was held out of the White Sox starting lineup yet again for Wednesday's tilt against the Royals. Robert hasn't played since last Thursday due to his lingering left wrist injury, though the White Sox still haven't thought about placing him on the injured list. AJ Pollock will start in his place in center field again on Wednesday night and will bat fifth against Kris Bubic and the Royals. Orioles' Cionel Pérez: Hold #20 of the year. Cionel Pérez collected his hold number 20 of the year, after pitching an scoreless inning on Wednesday's 4-0 victory against the Guardians. Pérez allowed a hit and struck out a hitter while only using 13 pitches, 11 of them for strikes. The young lefthander has now pitched 4 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings, after a rough outing on August 17 against the Blue Jays, when he allowed three earned runs and couldn't get an out. Gurriel's brothers: Hitless on Wednesday. The Gurriel brothers had a rough Wednesday night going 0-for-7 with 3 strikeouts. Yulieski continues his poor season at bat and went 0-for-4 with 2 strikeouts and a walk in a 5-3 victory against the Rangers. Meanwhile Lourdes was 0-for-3 with a run scored and a strikeout in a 7-5 loss to the Cubs. Yulieski has collected 107 hits this year but shows a slash line of .240/.291/.365. On the other hand, Lourdes is batting .290 with 127 hits, and slash line of .290/.328/.468, however he is just slashing ..215/.261/.308 in his last 15 games. White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Walks twice in return. Grandal went 0-for-2 with two walks in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Royals. Grandal missed 10 days on the injured list with a knee injury, and he was able to play nine innings behind the dish Wednesday. He should resume the No. 1 catcher role now that he's healthy, though Thursday's series finale is an afternoon game, meaning he'll likely start that contest on the bench. For the year, Grandal's slashing .202/.310/.257 with three home runs, 21 RBI, nine runs scored and a stolen base through 75 contests. Red's José Barrero: Hitless, again, on Wednesday. José Barrero, a good defensive shortstop but a very weak offensive player, went 0-for-5 on Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals. Barrero walked and scored a run but his bat continues to suffer leaving 8 runners on base on Wednesday. Barrero is slashing .151/.180/.233 in 24 games this year and has struck out 41 times. For Barrero it was his first game this year without a strikeout. His 23-game streak stroking out tied Franmil Reyes (2022) and Tyler Austin (2018) for the 3rd longest streak by a non-pitcher to start a season. Adam Dunn's 32-game streak to start 2012 is #1. White Sox activated C Yasmani Grandal from the 10-day injured list. Grandal is back in the fold with the White Sox ahead of Wednesday night's game against the Royals after missing a couple of weeks with a left knee strain. He has been an absolute mess offensively this season and may be limited as to how much catching he can do the rest of the way. Padres' Adrián Morejón: Four hold of the year. Morejón pitched an inning on Wednesday's 5-4 victory against the Giants, collecting his hold #4 of the year. However, the southpaw saw his ERA going up to 3.00, after allowing one earned run on two hits during his 19 pitches inning. Athletics recalled RHP Norge Ruíz from Triple-A Las Vegas. Zach Jackson (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, so the A's already had an open roster spot. Ruíz has surrendered seven runs on 15 hits and a walk in six major league innings this year. Astros' Yordan Álvarez: Intends to rejoin lineup Friday. Álvarez (hand), who was out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, said he is "100 percent" and expects to return to the starting nine Friday versus the Angels, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reported. Though his sore left hand will keep him on the bench for a third straight game, Álvarez doesn't believe his injury is as significant as his bout with right hand inflammation back in July, which forced him to the 10-day injured list shortly before the All-Star break. The Wednesday extra day off go along with Thursday's team off day looks like it might provide sufficient time for Álvarez to recover from the injury.

  • MLB 2022 | Arozarena flashes tools Tuesday, Abreu's BA is .309, Vargas set to rejoin LA, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Aug 31, 2022 Yordan Álvarez (hand) was out of the Astros' lineup again on Wednesday versus the Rangers. Álvarez hasn't played since Saturday due to lingering discomfort in both of his hands, though manager Dusty Baker told reporters Tuesday that the 25-year-old slugger is expected to avoid the injured list. He's sitting on a .294/.398/.597 batting line with 31 home runs and 80 RBI through 109 games this season. Aug 30, 2022 Randy Arozarena went 3-for-5 with a solo home run while adding a pair of steals Tuesday versus the Marlins. Arozarena had already stolen a couple bases before adding a cherry on top in the ninth inning with his 18th home run of the season. He's been outstanding in August with six homers, six steals and a .323 average. Arozarena continues to be one of the least efficient base stealers in the game, but that hasn't stopped him from continuing to run. The 27-year-old is locked in right now, reeling off three straight multi-hit efforts with half of his eight hits (three doubles and a homer) going for extra bases. That continues a hot stretch in which Arozarena has slashed .323/.422/.613 through 25 games in August with six homers, six steals, 15 runs and 23 RBI, and he's now just two home runs shy of his second straight 20-20 campaign. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports that the Dodgers will recall Miguel Vargas when MLB rosters expand on September 1. Vargas was pulled from the lineup at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday night and will head to New York to join the Dodgers ahead of Thursday's series finale versus the host Mets. He showed some nice flashes in his first taste of MLB action earlier this month and boasts a .304/.402/.511 slash line with 17 home runs and 16 stolen bases in 112 games this summer at OKC. The 22-year-old can also play all over the diamond defensively. Yasmani Grandal (knee) is expected to be activated on Wednesday. Grandal has been hitting the ball well on his minor league rehab assignment, though there is still some concern about how much he is going to be able to catch down the stretch as he completes his recovery from a left knee strain. Eloy Jiménez has been filling the DH role for Chicago as of late. Jay's Lourdes Gurriel Jr.: Hitless on Tuesday. Gurriel Jr. went 0-for-4 in a 5-3 victory against the Cubs Tuesday night. The young outfielder is slashing .292/.342/.400 with 5 HR, 50 runs scored, and 51 RBI this year. Luis Robert (wrist) was out of the White Sox lineup again on Tuesday. Robert hasn't started a game for the White Sox since last Thursday due to a lingering left wrist injury, though he is said to be making steady progress with his side workouts. Andrew Vaughn, AJ Pollock, and Gavin Sheets are starting across the outfield Tuesday versus the visiting Royals. White Sox's José Abreu: Hitting .309 now. José Abreu's BA ascended to .309 this year - second in the American League - , after going 2-for-5 on Tuesday night 9-7 loss to the Royals. Abreu singled twice for his multi-hit game #45 of the year, and is now slashing .309/.385/.455 with 14 HR and 60 RBI this season. Rockies' José Iglesias: Another multi-hit game. Iglesias was 2-for-5 Tuesday in a 3-2 win against the Braves. Iglesias had his double #30 of the year and his muti-hit game #32. He has a slash line of .307/.343/.402 with 3 HR and 47 RBI this season. Yordan Álvarez (hand) remained out of the Astros' starting lineup on Tuesday. Álvarez is getting treatment for a new injury to his left hand, after also missing chunks of time this year because of issues with his right hand. The goal will be to have the young slugger as healthy as possible leading into October, which is sure to cause more and more frustration for fantasy mangers in the closing weeks. Astros' Yulieski Gurriel: Hitless against the Rangers. On Tuesday night Gurriel went 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in a 4-2 victory against the Rangers. Gurriel is having a bad season after winning the batting title last year, slashing .243/.292/.368 with 7 HR and 40 RBI. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Aroldis Chapman (leg) has been feeling "a lot better" over the 24 to 36 hours. Chapman landed on the injured list last weekend due to a left leg infection stemming from a recent tattoo. Boone added that the Yankees expect the veteran left-hander to return this season, but there isn't an exact timetable for his return at the moment. At the very least, it's a positive sign he's feeling better and seemingly trending in the right direction. Reds' José Barrero: Sat again Tuesday. Barrero wasn't in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals. This marks consecutive games on the bench for Barrero, who has gone 4-for-33 with no extra-base hits in his last 10 contests. Kyle Farmer started at shortstop Tuesday while Alejo López was at third base.

  • MLB 2022 | Morejón scoreless on Monday, Cortés will have bullpen session Wednesday, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Aug 29, 2022 Padres' Adrián Morejón: Two scoreless innings on Monday. Adrián Morejón threw two scoreless innings of relief on Monday in a 6-5 win against the Giants. In his outing, the southpaw used 32 pitches - 20 of them for strikes - while allowing two hits, a walk, with two strikeouts. This year the young reliever has pitched in 17 games working 23 innings with 21 strikeouts, an 3-0 record, and a 2.74 ERA. Néstor Cortés (groin) will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. He'll then progress to a live batting practice session Saturday. If all goes well, it sounds like he'll skip a rehab assignment and go right back into the Yankees' rotation after that. That would seemingly put Cortés on track to start one of the team's game against the Twins next week at home. Jay's Lourdes Gurriel Jr: One single on Monday. Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-5 on Monday's 5-4 victory against the Cubs. It was Gurriel's 127th hit of the season, a year where the Cuban outfielder is slashing .295/.345/.404 with 5 HR and 51 RBI. With his only hit in the game, Gurriel extended to 6 games his hitting streak. He has batted .233 with no homers and 2 RBI during that period. Reds' José Barrero: Took seat Monday. Barrero wasn't in the starting lineup Monday against the Cardinals, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Barrero started the last seven games and hit just .087 with a run, an RBI, two walks and 11 strikeouts over that stretch. Kyle Farmer is starting at shortstop and batting third Monday.

  • MLB 2022 | García's hit streak ends at 23, Arozarena: three doubles, Yordan out of the lineup Sunday

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Aug 28, 2022 Adolis García's hit streak ends at 23. Adolis García struck out during a Texas rally that fell short in the ninth inning, ending his 23-game hitting streak as the Detroit Tigers held off the Rangers 9-8 Sunday. García's streak was the longest in the American League this season. He went 0 for 3 with two walks and fell one game short of matching the longest hitting string ever by a Cuban-born big leaguer, set by Rafael Palmeiro in 1994 for Baltimore. It was the fifth-longest streak in Rangers history. ''In the ninth inning, I wasn't thinking about the streak,'' García said. ''I was thinking about winning the game. I wanted to get something on the barrel,''. ''They tried to use the streak against me. They knew I wanted to hit, and they didn't throw me anything easy,'' he said. Rays' Randy Arozarena: Doubles three times. Arozarena went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs scored and two RBI in Sunday's 12-4 win against Boston. Arozarena hit an RBI double in both the sixth and eighth innings Sunday. The 27-year-old improved his season slash line to .263/.333/.449 with 50 extra-base hits and 69 RBI through 513 plate appearances. In 24 games this month, Arozarena has gone 27-for-88 (.307) with 13 extra-base hits and 22 RBI. Yasmani Grandal (knee) went 3-for-7 with a two-run homer and four RBI on Sunday in a pair of minor league rehab contests for Triple-A Charlotte. Grandal plated a run with an RBI ground out in the sixth inning before also adding an RBI double in the eighth inning in the opening contest of Sunday's doubleheader. The 33-year-old veteran catcher proceeded to launch a two-run homer in the second contest of the twin bill. He certainly looks ready to rejoin the White Sox' lineup this week. Luis Robert (wrist) remained out of the White Sox' starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. The positive news here is that Robert, who made an appearance as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning during Sunday's game, is expected to rejoin the White Sox' lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Royals. The 25-year-old outfielder has sat out three consecutive games due to a lingering left wrist issue. Hopefully the extra time off will enable him to put the issue to bed. Astros' Yulieski Gurriel: Two RBI. Yulieski Gurriel went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 victory against the Orioles. With a scoreless score in the seventh, Alex Bregman walked to start the inning, Kyle Tucker greeted reliever Bryan Baker with a double, and after one out, Gurriel hit a two-run single through the right side to give the Astros a decisive 2-0 lead. Gurriel is only slashing .244/.293/.371 this year but he has 8 RBI in his last 15 games. Astros manager Dusty Baker said Sunday that Yordan Álvarez was out of the lineup after receiving treatment on his left hand. Álvarez is dealing with left hand soreness and is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reported. Though it was a right hand injury that resulted in the 25-year-old landing on the injured list ahead of the All-Star break, Álvarez's other hand is now presenting complications. According to McTaggart, manager Dusty Baker expects Álvarez to rejoin the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers following Monday's off day, but it's unclear if the All-Star slugger will be able to quickly recapture the form he displayed in the first half. Since the start of August, Álvarez has produced only four extra-base hits and is batting just .234. Yankees' Nestor Cortés: Optimistic about quick return. Cortés (groin) was running sprints shortly after he was placed on the 15-day IL on Thursday, and he's optimistic that his absence will be brief, Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media reported. It seems strange that Cortés was able to sprint so soon after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 groin strain, but it bodes well for his chances of being activated when first eligible. The lefty starter indicated optimism about that scenario, stating, "The way I feel (Thursday), I'm hoping another 15 days will be exactly what I need." Cortés has already exceeded his career high as a professional with 131 innings this season, so the time off could help prevent him from wearing down in the postseason. White Sox's Yoán Moncada: Placed on injured list. Moncada was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Saturday, retroactive to Aug. 26. Moncada exited Thursday's matchup against the Orioles due to a hamstring issue, and the injury will ultimately sideline him for at least a week and a half. It's not yet clear when the White Sox expect him to return, but Josh Harrison and Romy Gonzalez are strong candidates to see increased playing time at third base, particularly after Leury Garcia (back) was reinstated from the injured list Saturday. Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Hits injured list with infection. Chapman was placed on the injured list Saturday with an infection in his leg, Jack Curry of YES Network reported. The issue reportedly stemmed from a tattoo Chapman received. Chapman hasn't pitched in over a week and allowed three runs while walking four batters in his last two appearances, though it's unclear exactly when the problem started bothering him. The back of the Yankees' bullpen is quite beat up at the moment, with Clay Holmes (back) and Scott Effross (shoulder) also out, though Holmes should return Monday and now seemingly has a clearer path to reclaiming closer duties. Lou Trivino or Jonathan Loáisiga could be candidates to record a save over the weekend.

  • MLB 2022 | Yuli with two singles, Iglesias with another multi-hit game, Ruíz was punished, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Aug 25, 2022 Astros' Yulieski Gurriel: Two infield hits. Yordan Álvarez: hitless. Gurriel, involved in a difficult season, went 2-for-4 on Thursday's 6-3 win against the Twins. Gurriel had two infield singles lifting his BA to .248 this year. The veteran first baseman has been hitting the ball better lately, and in his last 15 games is slashing .305/.348/.356 with 5 walks and 7 RBI. In the same game, Yordan Álvarez went 0-for-4 and his BA descended to .294. Álvarez is slashing .294/.398/.601 with 31 HR and 79 RBI this year. Rockies' José Iglesias: Another multi-hit game. Iglesias collected his 31st multi-hit game of the season, after going 2-for-4 with a strikeout in a 3-1 loss to the Mets on Thursday night. Iglesias' batting average is now .310, and he is ranked sixth along with José Abreu in all MLB. José Barrero had another rough night at the dish in Thursday's loss to the Phillies, going 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts. To say that the 24-year-old has been overwhelmed at the plate through his first 20 games on the season would be an understatement. He's now slashing an anemic .171/.194/.271 with two homers, seven RBI and a miserable 36/2 K/BB ratio in 72 plate appearances. Yoán Moncada was removed from Thursday's game against the Orioles due to left hamstring tightness. The White Sox believe that the issue is minor and he's listed as day-to-day. While he's only played in 80 games this season, health hasn't even been his biggest issue -- his on-field performance has been atrocious. He's slashing a putrid .197/.269/.313 with seven homers and 40 RBI. Yankees placed LHP Néstor Cortés on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 22, with a left groin strain. The 27-year-old All-Star was expected to start against the Athletics over the weekend, instead he'll sit down for a couple of weeks due to a nagging groin issue. Cortés has been phenomenal through 23 starts on the season, registering a 2.68 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 133/30 K/BB ratio across 131 innings. Clarke Schmidt seems like the most likely candidate to start in his place against the Athletics. Ray's Yandy Díaz and Randy Arozarena: Hitless on Thursday. Díaz and Arozarena went 0-for-6 combined on Thursday's 8-3 victory against the Angels. Díaz walked twice and scored two runs while Arozarena struck out and also scored a run. A's Norge L. Ruíz: Three runs allowed in his third season outing. Norge L. Ruíz made his MLB debut last August 19 after five MILB years, but he has not taken advantage of the opportunity received, being punished in almost all his outings. In his third outing, Thursday night against the Yankees, Ruíz pitched 2 1/3 allowing three earned runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts. The right-hander has allowed 14 hits and 5 earned runs in 6 innings with 9 strikeouts and a walk this year. Ruíz is lucky that he's pitching for a non-competitive team like Oakland but his return to the minors is expected if he continues his terrible work. Yasmani Grandal (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. The 33-year-old backstop has been sidelined since August 20 when he had to be carted off the field after an awkward slide at home plate. It's terrific news that he has already progressed to the point of a rehab assignment and should be able to rejoin the White Sox before the end of next week barring any setbacks. Jay's Lourdes Gurriel Jr.: One hit against the Red Sox. Gurriel Jr. was 1-for-6 against the Red Sox in a 6-5 victory in 10 innings Thursday. With his performance Gurriel is now batting .295. The young outfielder is having a rough 15 games, slashing .203/.239/.266 during that period with no homers, 6 RBI, and 8 strikeouts.

  • MLB 2022 | Adolis extends hitting streak to 21, Randy with double #28, Abreu 5th in BA, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Aug 24, 2022 Ranger's Adolis García: Hitting streak extended to 21 games. Adolis García went 2-for-6 on Wednesday night in a 16-4 victory over the Rockies. In the game, Adolis extended his hitting streak to 21 games with an RBI single in the second inning. García scored a run and also struck out twice. The Cuban outfielder reached 78 RBI this year while slashing .256/.302/.451. His hitting streak is the longest in the Majors right now and start it on August 3 against Baltimore. The streak could be extended tomorrow, when the Rangers take on the Tigers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Yoán Moncada finished 0-for-5 against the Orioles on Wednesday, leaving him hitless in his last four games. Moncada is batting .165/.265/.271 in 85 at-bats this month, but as bad as he's been this year, it hasn't done much to his overall OPS of .572. Although Jake Burger is a definite defensive downgrade at third base, the White Sox need to think about turning to him anyway. Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Tallies 37th RBI. Gurriel went 0-for-3 with his RBI #37 of the year on Tuesday against the Twins. Gurriel has had a mixed season for the Astros this year, but continues to be a great defensive player at first base and one of the most experienced players heading into the 2022 postseason. Ray's Randy Arozarena: Double #28 of the year. Randy Arozarena went 1-for-3 with a strikeout on Wednesday 4-3 win over the Angels. The outfielder only hit in the game was his double #28 of the year, only four shy of his personal record of 32 during the 2021 season. Arozarena is having a great end of the season slashing a phenomenal .391/.517/.652 with a homer and 5 RBI during his last 7 games. He is also three homers away of having back-to-back 20-20 seasons, after collecting 20 homeruns and 20 steals last year. White Sox's José Abreu and Luis Robert: Three hits combined on Wednesday. Abreu and Luis Robert went 3-for-8 on Wednesday 5-3 win against the Orioles. Abreu went 2-for-4 with two strikeouts while Luis added a single in four at bat with a run scored, a walk, and a strikeout. Abreu's BA is now .311, fifth in all MLB this year. Meanwhile Luis Robert's BA stayed in .304 after 87 games. Ray's Yandy Díaz: Two hits on Wednesday. Díaz went 2-for-4 on Wednesday 4-3 victory over the Angels. Later in the game Díaz was replaced by outfielder José Siri. The Cuban third baseman is slashing .346/393/.654 in the last 7 games with a homer and 8 RBI. Astros' Yordan Álvarez: 50 extra bases this year. Yordan Álvarez went 1-for-2 with a walk on Wednesday's 5-3 win against the Twins. Álvarez collected his double #17 of the year, for his 50 extra bases of the season. That includes 31 HR and 2 triples. He is slashing .318/.429/.409 over his last 7 games with no HR and 4 RBI. Rockies' José Iglesias: One single against the Rangers. Iglesias went 1-for-4 on Wednesday's 16-4 loss to the Rangers. Iglesias BA is now .308, and he is ranked 8th in all MLB this year. The 32-y/old infielder is just 25 hits away of his personal record (145), set during the 2019 with Cincinnati.

  • MLB 2022 | Adolis reaches 20-20-20, Randy and Luis Robert: three hits each on Tuesday, and more

Daily Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2022 season. A compendium from several MLB sources. Aug 23, 2022 Rangers' Adolis García: Reaches 20-20. García went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Rockies. Twenty is the appropriate number for García this week. A day after mashing his 20th home run, the outfielder stole his 20th base to achieve the first 20-20 of his career. A third "20" can be added to that; the outfielder's fourth-inning double extended his batting streak to 20 games. García is having a strong second half -- .302/.353/.488 over 33 games -- after a first half that alternated between good stretches and deep funks. In the same game, Rockies' shortstop José Iglesias went 0-for-4 with a run scored, leaving his BA in .308 this year. Randy Arozarena went 3-for-5 with an RBI double in Tuesday's win over the Angels. Arozarena added on to the Rays' massive lead by lining a 100.4-mph RBI ground-rule double to left field in the bottom of the eighth. In the month of August (70 at-bats), he's batting .300 with five home runs and three steals. Luis Robert went 3-for-5 with a run scored Tuesday in Baltimore. Robert reached base twice in his return to the lineup Saturday, doubled in his second game back Monday and contributed three singles in this one. In other words, it appears that his wrist is okay. Astros' Yulieski Gurriel and Yordan Álvarez: One hit each on Tuesday. In a 4-2 victorya against the Twins, Yulieski Gurriel and Yordan Álvarez had one hit each. Gurriel went 1-for-3 with a walk, while Álvarez was 1-for-4 with a strikeout. Gurriel, in a terrible season offensively, is improving towards the end of the year slashing .310/.394/.379 with 4 RBI in his last 7 games. Meanwhile Yordan is slumping in his last 15 games, compiling a .245/.311/.321 slash line with 1 HR and 7 RBI. Yordan is leading all Cuban players this year with 31 homers and 79 RBI. White Sox's José Abreu and Yoán Moncada: Hitless on Tuesday against the Orioles. José Abreu and Yoán Moncada went 0-for-9 on Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Orioles. Abreu went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts while Moncada walked once and also struck out. Abreu and Moncada are having opposite seasons, while the veteran first baseman is slashing .310/.385/.463 with 14 homers, and 58 RBI in 121 games, Moncada has played only 78 games showing a slash line of .195/.268/.314 with 7 HR, and 40 RBI. Ray's Yandy Díaz: Two runs on Tuesday. Díaz went 1-for-4 with two runs scored on Tuesday's 11-1 victory against the Angels. Díaz added his RBI #46 of the year while also walked. The Cuban third baseman - DHing on Tuesday - is slashing .308/.357/.615 with a homer, and 8 RBI in his last 7 games. Astros' Aledmys Díaz: Facing multi-week absence. Astros general manager James Click said Sunday that he expects Díaz (groin) to miss "a few weeks," Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Click's comments would seem to imply that Diaz, who was placed on the 10-day injured list last Wednesday, won't be ready to go when first eligible to rejoin the Astros this weekend. While Díaz is on the shelf, Yordan Álvarez is expected to pick up more work in left field, which will open up more frequent starts at designated hitter for trade-deadline pickup Trey Mancini. Reds' José Barrero: Hitless on Tuesday. Barrero went 0-for-2 with an RBI, two walks, and a strikeout on Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Phillies. Barrero, in his third MLB season, has a slash line of .175/.200/.286 with 2 HR, and 7 RBI in 18 games this year. Jay's Lourdes Gurriel Jr.: One hit against the Red Sox on Tuesday. Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-5 with a run scored and his RBI #50 on Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Red Sox. Gurriel is having a phenomenal season compiling a .298 BA in 109 games and 442 plate appearances.
