  • World Series 2023 | Texas Rangers win crucial Game 3 despite injuries

Cuban MLB Players News for the 2023 postseason. A compendium from several sources Oct 30 Rangers 3, D-backs 1 Rangers lead 2-1 On Monday night at Chase Field, the Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 in Game 3 of the World Series. With the win, the Rangers now lead the best-of-seven series 2-1 as they seek to win it all for the first time in franchise history. During the game, Texas starter Max Scherzer suffered an injury. Despite Scherzer's early departure due to back spasms, the bullpen held the lead thanks to Corey Seager's two-run home run in the third inning. As well, Texas slugger Adolis García appeared to hurt his side on a swing in the eighth inning. After that, he also left the game. As the team's leading hitter at the moment, Garcia's injury is cause for concern. Whether he will play in tomorrow's Game 4 is unknown. Ketel Marte extended his record hit streak to 19 games with a line-drive single in the sixth inning for Arizona. As a result of the win, the Rangers are now 9-0 on the road this postseason. Nine road wins are the most ever by a team in a postseason. A team that wins Game 3 in a best-of-seven MLB postseason series after being tied 1-1 in the series wins 69% of the time. No matter how those first games turn out, teams up 2-1 in MLB postseason series win 70.3% of the time. Game 4 is Tuesday night. Adolis García was removed from Game 3 of the World Series against the Diamondbacks in the eighth inning due to tightness in his left side. The 30-year-old sustained the injury on a swing during his last at-bat in the eighth inning. Fortunately, it doesn’t sound initially like it should sideline him for long, though his availability for Game 4 will likely depend on how he wakes up feeling on Tuesday. Travis Jankowski replaced him in right field for the bottom of the eighth. Any sort of missed time though would obviously be a major blow to the Rangers’ offense. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Aroldis Chapman made World Series debut. In Game 3 of the 2023 World Series, Aroldis Chapman made his World Series debut in the eighth inning. Chapman allowed two hits and the only Arizona run. In the inning, shortstop Corey Seager initiated an excellent double play that saved Chapman once again. Chapman also struck out one and was credited with his fifth postseason hold. After being a part of the historic Cubs team that broke the curse of the Billy Goat in 2016, this was Chapman's second World Series appearance as well as the sixth overall game. The streak of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is broken. It wasn't Gurriel Jr.'s best night on Monday, when the D-backs lost to the Rangers 3-1. Gurriel was 0-for-3 with a strikeout, ending his seven-game hitting streak. Gurriel, however, continues to play solid baseball, posting a slash line of .254/.279/.407 in 59 at-bats this postseason.

A compendium from several sources Oct 24 National League Championship Series D-backs 4, Phillies 2 D-backs won the series 4-3 In Game 7 of the Championship Series played at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2. It is the second time in franchise history that Arizona Diamondbacks have won the National League championship. The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to face the Texas Rangers in the World Series starting on Friday, after coming back from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits in the best-of-seven series. A the end, it was the D-backs who got the big hit and execute the better pitches. With tonight's win, Arizona won its second elimination game in a row. Carroll singled to tie the score 2-2 in the fifth inning. Then he stole second and scored the winning run, thanks to Gabriel Moreno's right-field single. Earlier in the game, Carroll had already scored the first run, courtesy of a single, another single by Moreno, and an infield ground ball. As a rookie, Carroll joined Yoenis Céspedes (2012), Jacoby Ellsbury (2007), Chuck Knoblauch (twice in 1991), and Pepper Martin (1931) as the only players to steal two bases and have three hits in a postseason Game 7. Credit must also be given to the D-backs pitching staff. Games 1-2 saw the Phillies score 15 runs, while Games 3-7 saw the D-backs hold Philadelphia to 15 runs. Turner went 0-for-12 in the last three games of the series. It took Castellanos two at-bats in the NLCS to hit a home run. He went 0-for-23 the rest of the way. Brazil advances to the Super Round as undefeated group leaders At the Parque Bicentenario Cerrillos stadium in Santiago, Chile, Brazil continued its surprise performance in the baseball tournament of the XIX Pan American Games by defeating Cuba 4-2 in a historic result. Box score Brazil's victory over Cuba was its first ever in the history of these tournaments, leaving Cuba with little chances of advancing to the Super Round of the tournament. Brazil won the battle for a spot in the Super Round, leaving Cuba with almost no chance of advancing to the final round, in a result that may turn out to be the worst result ever achieved by a Cuban team in Pan-American Games. As for Cuba's fate in the tournament, it will have to wait for the result of the match between Venezuela and Colombia. If Venezuela beat Colombia, the Cubans still have the chance to play for fifth place at these Pan American Games. However, if Colombia beat Venezuela, Cuba's fate will be deciding using the TQB system to decide which team advances with Brazil. Felipe R. Natel, the 34-year-old right-hander and game winner, kept the Cuban team at bay for 4 2/3 innings. Natel did not allow a hit during his outing. Natel faced only two threats in the first two innings. He kept the score intact, however, by shutting them down. Since the second inning he went on to retire eight consecutive Cuban hitters until the fifth inning, when an error by the third baseman allowed Raúl González to reach first base. Natel got the second out in that inning, retiring catcher Andrys Pérez for the second time. However, an injury forced him to leave the mound. He threw an excellent game completing 4 2/3 innings, with no hits and giving up three walks, three strikeouts, with only 69 pitches, 41 of them strikes. A single by the sixth hitter and left fielder, Fabio Murakami, and a sacrifice bunt by Lucas Rojo had Brazil its first runner in scoring position in the second inning against Cuban starter José R. Rodríguez. Then Murakami moved to third and then scored, after two consecutive errors by second baseman Yadil Mujica and Roberto Baldoquín, the shortstop. Right-hander José Ramón Rodríguez pitched well through four innings, allowing three hits, a walk, and a strikeout, before a poor defense led to the first run of the game. He should have pitched at least one more inning after a comfortable 67 pitches, but he was inexplicably replaced by Erlys Casanova in the fifth. Despite his efforts, Rodriguez was charged with the loss. The change didn't go well at all. With one out in the fifth, Casanova allowed three consecutive singles from the middle of Brazil's lineup: Victor Mascai, Paulo Orlando and Shindi Koba. The latter drove in the second run for the visitors. Erlys exited the game after the hit while Renner Rivero entered to allow Murakami's second single of the game. Minutes later Lucas Rojo's double to deep left center capped the inning's three-run rally. Brazil was winning 4-0. In the sixth inning, the Cubans ended the no-hit, no-run game against veteran right-hander Andre Rienzo.A triple by Dayán Ortega to right-center put Cuba on the board after Rienzo walked Gracial. Cuban offense would not get further in the inning, as Guibert hit a fly ball to center field, ending the inning. Cuba would make its final threat in the seventh inning by scoring two runs against Brazil's new reliever, right-hander Enzo Sawayama.Raúl González led off the inning with a single. After pinch-hitter Yasniel González walked, Sawayama was relieved by right-hander Eric Taniguchi. Taniguchi, after retiring Luis González on a fly ball to right, allowed a single from Roel Santos that brought Cuba within two runs. Nevertheless, Yadil Mujica surrendered all Cuban hope with two outs on a ground ball for a 3-6-3 double play that ended the game. This left Cuba's third hitter, Baldoquín, waiting for a crucial offensive turn. Ultimately, Taniguchi saved the game. Group A 1. Panama 3-0 (*) 2. Mexico 2-1 (*) 3. Dominican Republic 1-2 4. • Postseason 2023 | Altuve's clutch HR gave the Astros the win in Game 5. Adolis' big HR wasn't enough

Cuban MLB Players News for the 2023 postseason. A compendium from several sources Oct 20 American League Championship Series Astros 5, Rangers 4 Astros lead 3-2 Powered by a dramatic ninth-inning home run by José Altuve, the Astros took a 3–2 series lead over the Rangers on Friday. The game was marked by massive home runs for both teams and heated bases-clearing incidents on the field, resulting in one of the most memorable games of the 2023 postseason. As the Astros trailed 4–2 with two runners on and no outs in the top of the ninth, Altuve drove a pitch just over the left field wall. Houston won the game with the home run, putting them one victory away from another World Series appearance. According to ESPN Stats & Info, the 10 career go-ahead home runs by José Altuve pass Albert Pujols as the most in MLB history. It is his third go-ahead HR in the 9th inning or later of a playoff game, the most ever. A clutch home run by Adolis García off Justin Verlander put the Rangers ahead before the stunning loss, a welcome but brief sign that the Rangers might pick up their offensive game. As a result, the Astros now lead the best-of-seven series 3-2. Despite Jordan Montgomery pitching 5 1/3 innings and Nathaniel Lowe hitting a solo home run, the Astros offense was too much for the Rangers. In addition to Altuve, Alex Bregman also hit a home run and José Abreu produced a single-RBI. As the series moves back to Houston, the Astros maintain a 3-2 lead, with the potential to win the pennant by Sunday, when Game 6 takes place. Teams that win Game 5 in a best-of-seven postseason series have won 79 out of 112 times (71%). In series with the current 2-3-2 format, teams that win Game 5 before going home for Games 6-7 have won 20 of 25 times (80%). José Abreu smacked a go-ahead RBI single off of Jordan Montgomery in the sixth inning on Friday as the Astros triumphed over the Rangers in Game 5 of the ALCS. The Rangers had just evened the score at 1-1 in the home half of the fifth, when the Astros struck right back in the next frame. Alex Bregman drew a one-out walk, Yordan Álvarez singled into right field and Abreu followed by hitting an 0-2 curveball for a hard (96.7 mph EV) one-hopper that Corey Seager was unable to handle at shortstop — driving in Bregman with the go-ahead run. Abreu finished the day 1-for-4 and is now hitting .257 (9-for-35) with four homers, 12 RBI and a stolen base through his first nine postseason contests. Adolis García blasted a go-ahead three-run homer off of Justin Verlander in the sixth inning on Friday night, but it wouldn’t be enough to lead the Rangers to victory over the Astros in Game 5 of the ALCS. • PanAm'2023 | Despite problems, Cuba defeated Colombia 4-3 on its debut

The Cuban hitters left ten men on-bases Despite the fact that Cuba didn't have the perfect debut at the XIX edition of the Pan American Games in Chile'2023, victory is finally a reality, a 4-3 win over Colombia in Group B placed the Cubans at the top of Group B along with Brazil, which beat Venezuela the previous day. Box score The Cubans, playing at the Bicentenario de Cerrillos Park in the Baseball and Softball center of Santiago de Chile this Friday morning, found a great rivalry against a Colombian team that, in the 2019 Pan-American event, began the debacle of the Cubans in the tournament beating them 6-1 in the opening game of the event. History did not repeat itself this time. After the game, Cuban manager Armando Johnson dispelled doubts about his team, telling the Cuban sports digital newspaper Jit "We obtained the first victory, I think it was a hard-fought victory for the boys who are well focused on the games...it was a difficult game 4-3," he said, adding "Some inaccuracies need to be corrected and we must prepare now, since the championship is short". Regarding the next game against Venezuela, Johnson noted: "It is against Venezuela, a tough rival that lost a game against Brazil but all the teams here are well prepared." Yoanni Yera failed to live up to his expectations as a Cuban starter. A Cuban lead was twice wasted by Yera in his brief performance. He was finished off in the fourth inning, when third baseman Fabian Pertuz hit a two-run homer to tie the game at 3-3. Cuba took the lead in the first inning against right-handed starter Randy Consuegra. Dayán García' single to left field drove in Roel Santos with the first run of the game. But the lead would not last. In the second inning, Carlos M. Martínez hit a solo shot off Yera to tie it at one. The Cubans would lead again in the third against Consuegra, thanks to Roberto Baldoquín' solo shot to left field. The Cubans could have scored big in the inning, when they loaded the bases with only one out. However, they could only get one more run on a ground ball from Luis González who brought Yoelkis Guibert to the plate. After Pertuz's home run tied the score at three in the fourth, Colombia could have scored a lot more in the inning as well. The Colombians loaded the bases after one out. However, reliever Renner Rivero forced a 4-6-3 double play, brilliantly executed by the Cuban defense, to close the inning and save Cuba. Ultimately, the Cuban starter threw 3 1/3 innings with 63 pitches, allowing three earned runs on six hits - four extra-bases -, with four strikeouts, and no walks, and leaving the game with no decision. In the fourth inning, Cuba had another chance. Arruebarrena batted with runners in the corners. After an intense battle with the Colombian reliever, he gave up the third out on a line drive to left field. Colombia put a man on base in the fifth inning after an out due to a walk. However, Renner Rivero retired the next batter in an excellent 5-4-3 double play, in which third baseman Roberto Baldoquín displayed remarkable defensive abilities. Fifth inning was the deciding inning. As Colombian right-hander Jorge E. Martinez entered the game, he struck out Dayán García. But back-to-back singles by Luis González and Yasniel González threatened Colombia with runners in the corners. When catcher Andrys Pérez walked, Martínez was removed and left-hander Kevin Escorcia was called to face Mujica and Santos. The Cuban manager said specifically about the non-substitution of Andrys Pérez by a pinch-hitter in this fifth inning: "We value it, but we did not decide because Andrys is a very defensive catcher in close games. Although he has some offensive gaps, he is a timely hitter." Reliever Escorcia retired Mujica on a ground ball to first base. On this play, the Colombian first baseman made an excellent catch to force the runner on second base. However, he couldn't prevent Cuba from taking the lead when Luis González crossed the plate for the decisive run. Cuba led 4-3 and never looked back. Rivero got two outs in the sixth, but after giving up a walk, the Cuban manager decided to bring in the bullpen. Yankiel Mauris entered the game and retired the next batter to end the inning. Rivero, after pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings in which he walked two and struck out one, was credited with the win. In the seventh, right-hander Frank A. Álvarez was called up to close the game. The Chunichi Dragons reliever needed 19 pitches to seal the Cuban victory, allowing a single, but striking out two. Álvarez was credited with the save. Álvarez specifically pointed out to Jit after the match: "Thank God we had the first victory, we came to win them all but the first victory is always of importance, and today it was super critical to get the first victory for Cuba and start at the top of the standings." Regarding his work and how he felt, Álvarez said: "I felt super good, since my incorporation to the team from Japan, thank God we have been doing great preparation, the team has an excellent dynamic and great unity and well, we are all for the same goal." Cuba now faces Venezuela this Sunday at 2:00 pm, Cuban and US Eastern Standard Time, in a game that could well determine the island's place in the Super Round.
