WBSC anuncia la segunda Liga de Campeones de Béisbol de las Américas para abril de 2025

Hoy la Organización Mundial de Béisbol y Softbol (WBSC, por sus siglas en inglés) anunció la realización de la segunda edición de la Liga de Campeones de Béisbol de las Américas (BCL Américas), esta vez pactada para el mes de abril de 2025 en México.

La Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB) será la anfitriona del evento en el Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú, sede de los Diablos Rojos.

Los Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (Asociación Americana) ganaron la edición inaugural en 2023, mientras por Cuba el elenco representativo, Alazanes de Granma, culminó en el último lugar entre cuatro naciones.

En aquella ocasión el presidente de la WBSC, Riccardo Fraccari, expresó: "Prevemos el día en que honraremos a un Campeón de Campeones, al ganador de la Liga de Campeones global".

La segunda edición de la Liga de Campeones de Béisbol de las Américas (BCL Americas) se llevará a cabo del 8 al 13 de abril de 2025 y en ella participarán nuevamente los elencos campeones de los países representados.

Esta vez el torneo ampliará su participación con la presencia de seis conjuntos, que incluye a los anfitriones del torneo, los Diablos Rojos de México por la LMB. Junto a estos aparecerán los titulares de Curazao, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos y Cuba, que debe llevar a los Leñadores de Las Tunas, titulares de Cuba 2024.

Los Leones de Yucatán y la Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB) organizaron la primera edición de la BCL Américas en el Estadio Parque Kukulcán Álamo en Mérida, Yucatán, México, del 28 de septiembre al 1 de octubre de 2023.

Los Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks ganaron el torneo de cuatro equipos, derrotando a los Caimanes de Barranquilla (LPB) en la final. Los otros dos participantes fueron los anfitriones, Leones, y los Alazanes de Granma, por Cuba.

La Liga de Campeones es el primer torneo de la WBSC que involucra ligas y clubes.

"La Liga de Campeones de las Américas abre un nuevo capítulo en el béisbol internacional", dijo el presidente de la WBSC, Riccardo Fraccari, después de la primera edición. "Esperamos lanzar una Liga de Campeones de Asia y una Liga de Campeones de Europa. Prevemos el día en que honraremos a un Campeón de Campeones, el ganador de la Liga de Campeones global".
