Rangers 7, Rays 1
Adolis García went 1-for-5 and blasted his first home run of the postseason on Wednesday as the Rangers completed their sweep of the Rays in Tampa Bay.
The 30-year-old slugger opened the scoring in the ballgame, crushing a 416-foot solo shot off of Zach Eflin in the fourth inning. That would be his only hit in the ballgame, but it played a critical role in the victory for the Rangers. In the Wild Card Series he went just 2-for-10 with a homer, a run scored, a RBI and three strikeouts. The Rangers will now head to Baltimore to take on the Orioles in the ALDS with Game 1 starting Saturday, Oct 7.
Yandy Díaz and Randy Arozarena combined for two hits on Wednesday.
In a 7-1 loss to the Rangers, Yandy Díaz and Randy Arozarena combined for 2-for-8. Arozarena struck out once while each player had a single. In a disappointing outcome for the 2020 World Series finalists, the Rays were eliminated in two games at home. During the Wild Card Series, Díaz went 1-for-8 with a strikeout, and Arozarena went 3-for-8 with a double and two strikeouts.
D-backs 5, Brewers 2
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. adds first postseason RBI.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-4 and added his first postseason RBI against the Brewers in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series. Gurriel struck out twice as well and was robbed of a base hit by Josh Donaldson at third base in the fifth inning. As a whole, Gurriel went 1-for-8 with a RBI and four strikeouts in the Wild Card Series. The Arizona Diamondbacks entered the National League Division Series for the first time since 2017, facing the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, Oct 7.
Marlins 1, Phillies 7
Jorge Soler cracks one hit in Game 2 loss.
Soler went 1-for-4 in Game 2 after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against the Phillies. Despite his efforts, he struck out twice in a lineup so reliant on him. With five strikeouts and no homer or RBI, he finished 1-for-8 in the Wild Card Series. In the NL Division Series, the Phillies will play the Braves in a rematch of the 2022 NLDS, which the Phillies won. Game 1 is on Saturday, Oct 7.
Blue Jays 0, Twins 2
In the other Wild Card Series the Twins are moving on in the postseason for the first time since 2002. Game 2 ended in a 2-0 victory for the Twins as they completed a two-game sweep of the Blue Jays. The win sets up a Division Series matchup against the AL West champion Astros at Minute Maid Park starting Saturday.
