American League Division Series
Astros 3, Twins 2
José Abreu went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead two-run homer on Wednesday, leading the Astros to a 3-2 series-clinching victory over the Twins in Game 4 of the ALDS.
The defending World Series champions punch their ticket to the ALCS for the seventh consecutive season since 2017 to face the division-rival Rangers. Houston will host in-state rival Texas in Game 1 of the ALCS on Sunday, with three-time AL Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander likely on the mound for the defending World Series champion Astros in his 36th career postseason start. They make it back on the strength of another epic performance from Abreu, who homered for the third time in this series, taking Twins lefty reliever Caleb Thielbar deep to right-center field in the fourth inning for a two-run homer that wound up being the difference in the contest. The 36-year-old veteran first baseman struggled in his first season with the Astros, but has certainly made up for it with some clutch hits so far in the postseason.
Yordan Álvarez' home run streak in the playoffs ended after four straight games.
He went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two strikeouts as the Astros won Game 4 of the ALDS to advance to their 7th straight ALCS. Álvarez singled in the fourth inning for the first time this postseason, and was brought home by the 2-run shot from Abreu minutes later. Now Álvarez, through four games in this postseason, is hitting .438 (7-for-16) with four homers, six RBI, seven runs scored, and an enormous 1.784 OPS.
Astros won the series 3-1
National League Division Series
Phillies 10, Braves 2
Daysbel Hernández made his postseason debut.
Aaron Nola and four relievers combined to push the 104-win Braves to the brink of elimination, when Philadelphia beat Atlanta 10-2 in Game 3 of their NL Division Series on Wednesday night. In the game, Cuban reliever Daysbel Hernández made his first career postseason appearance for the Braves, pitching a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout.
The Phillies can advance to the NL Championship Series for the second straight season with a win at home Thursday. The Phillies are 3-0 at home in the playoffs this season and have a 25-11 career postseason record at Citizens Bank Park. The .694 winning percentage is the best among all teams with least 30 games in their home park in baseball history.
Phillies lead the series 2-1
D-backs 4, Dodgers 2
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. with a single in Game 3 of the NLDS.
In a three-game sweep of the National League Division Series, the D-backs defeated the Dodgers, 4-2, on Wednesday night to advance to the National League Championship Series for the first time since 2007. On Monday, the D-backs will play either Philadelphia or Atlanta in the best-of-seven NLCS. In the game, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-4 and left the bases loaded in the fifth inning.
