Yordan Álvarez played the role of hero on Tuesday, crushing a three-run walk-off homer off of Robbie Ray to give the Astros an improbable 8-7 come-from-behind victory in Game 1 of the ALDS.

The Astros entered the eighth inning trailing 7-3, but a two-run home run by Alex Bregman cut that deficit in half. They were tasked with facing Mariners closer Paul Sewald in the ninth and things got interesting as David Hensley was plunked with one out, then Jeremy Pena smacked a two-out single to put the tying runs on base. That's when Mariners manager Scott Servais called upon Robbie Ray to face Álvarez. After fouling off a first-pitch sinker, the 25-year-old slugger obliterated the next one from Ray, crushing a 438-foot series-changing blast. He also had a two-run double in the third inning, finishing the day 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and five RBI.

Yuli Gurriel went 3-for-4 and blasted a solo home run on Tuesday, as the Astros rallied to beat the Mariners in Game 1 of the ALDS.

Gurriel smacked his 373-foot solo shot off of Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert in the fourth inning, pulling the Astros to within three runs at 6-3. He also had two-out singles in the second and eighth innings -- but wound up stranded at first both times. The Astros will now will now look to ride the momentum of an unbelievable comeback victory in what will be a critical Game 2 in Houston on Thursday.

Miguel Vargas has made the Dodgers' National League Division Series roster.

Vargas is arguably the biggest surprise on the Dodgers' postseason roster as he gets the nod over super utility specialist Hanser Alberto. The 22-year-old top prospect tore the cover off the ball this season at Triple-A Oklahoma City and gives Los Angeles some extra pop off the bench for their best-of-five series against the division-rival Padres.

Aroldis Chapman has been left off the Yankees' American League Division Series roster.

Chapman's tenure in New York has officially come to an end. The 34-year-old left-hander skipped a workout session earlier over the weekend and was told that he would be left off the team's playoff roster. Two days prior to the decision Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Aroldis Chapman was scheduled to throw a batting practice session on Friday but skipped it and returned to his home in Miami. Boone said that Chapman had a decent shot of making the ALDS roster but missed the chance to pitch this postseason after missing the mandatory workout. The veteran reliever has had a disappointing season with a 4.46 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 43/28 K/BB ratio across 36 1/3 innings. Chapman is a free agent after the season and with his performance on and off the field, he could have a difficult time landing with a new team next season.
