The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Mets once more, with a 10-2 victory on Thursday night, giving them a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series.
The Dodgers are on the verge of reaching the World Series, with just one more win needed before facing the victor of the New York Yankees-Cleveland Guardians ALCS.
Following his breakthrough in Game 3 with a home run, Shohei Ohtani started Game 4 by hitting a solo home run against Mets pitcher Jose Quintana. Quintana had not allowed any runs in the postseason until Thursday's game.
Following Ohtani's home run, Mets third baseman Mark Vientos hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. This marked the rookie's fourth home run of the 2024 playoffs, and his 12 RBIs equal the franchise record for most in a single postseason.
The Mets managed to maintain a tight score of 3-2 until the third inning. Nonetheless, Quintana encountered difficulties in the fourth inning, leading to his replacement by Jose Butto. Quintana departed with runners on first and second and one out, hoping that Butto would perform effectively. However, Mookie Betts promptly welcomed the reliever with a two-run double to left field, extending the score to 5-2.
Two innings later, Mookie will extend the lead by breaking it open against reliever Phil Maton with a two-run homer, making it 7-2.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the starting pitcher for the Dodgers, recorded eight strikeouts in a mere 4 ⅓ innings, exited the game with a 5-2 advantage, and the bullpen continued to excel as usual.
Game 5 is scheduled for Friday at 5:08 p.m. (ET) at Citi Field. David Peterson (10-3, 2.90 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for the Mets, transitioning from the bullpen where he has been pitching throughout the postseason. On the other hand, the Dodgers will have Jack Flaherty (13-7, 3.17 ERA) on the mound, who delivered seven scoreless innings in Game 1.
