MLB 2024 | Ibáñez homered in win; Luis Robert with RBI and two steals; Aledmys to the Astros

Cuban Players News for the 2024 Major League Baseball season. A compilation of several sources

Andy Ibáñez went 1-for-2 with a solo homer and a walk against the Dodgers on Saturday.

Andy Ibáñez drew a walk in the third inning, then took Justin Wrobleski deep for a solo homer in the fifth before leaving for a pinch-hitter in the seventh when the Dodgers brought a right-hander in out of the bullpen. The 31-year-old infielder is hitting .285/.321/.438 with four homers, 22 runs scored, and 21 RBI across 140 plate appearances. His ability to contribute in power categories, albeit inconsistently, provides value to the team, however, his high strikeout rate and low walk rate limit his upside in on-base percentage leagues. Ibanez continues to be a situational player whose value spikes when he's connecting well, as seen in today's game.

Luis Robert Jr. went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two steals against the Pirates on Saturday.

Robert Jr. reached on an error in the fourth inning and stole second. He later drove in a run with a base hit in the sixth before collecting his second steal of the game. The outfielder has struggled to fully get going this year, but he has seven stolen bases and two homers in 11 July contests. The 26-year-old outfielder is hitting .222/.293/.481 with 11 homers, 23 runs scored, 23 RBI, and 10 steals across 174 plate appearances.

Astros signed INF Aledmys Díaz to a minor league contract.

No real shocker here as Díaz winds up back with Houston just a couple weeks after being released by the Athletics. The 33-year-old infielder was a versatile fixture in the Astros’ title-contending runs from 2019 through 2022. There’s probably no impact for the Astros at this advanced stage of his career, but he’s a reliable bench option for Houston moving forward.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. delivers run in return.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-for-5 with an RBI in Saturday's 12-1 win over Toronto. Gurriel returned to the lineup Saturday after missing two games due to general soreness. The outfielder has hit safely in eight of the last nine games, going 10-for-40 with eight RBI.
