Santiago de Cuba's last game against Artemisa in the Elite League of Cuban baseball has been confiscated, according to the Cuban National Baseball Commission.
After the Wasps defeated the Artemisa Hunters 11-9 in Wednesday's early hours, the Hunters filed a protest for an inappropriate pitcher. For the number of pitches he threw in his last outing, the pitcher was unable to work for the day.
In their announcement following the game, the tournament organizers said they would review the corresponding reports and announce their decision.
According to the Commission, Yoendris Montero was not authorized to work at the game. This is because last Saturday he threw 27 pitches and on Sunday 23, requiring him to take two days off.
According to section J of article 5.1.1 of the tournament regulations, "when a pitcher throws in consecutive games, the rest will depend on the number of pitches he made on the consecutive days he worked."
Due to the Santiago team's infraction, in addition to confiscating the game, it was decided to suspend pitching coach Fernand Blanc for three games.
In these cases, the final score of the game is nine (9) runs to zero for the opposing team.
Based on the adjusted standings, Matanzas is the leader with 15-9, followed by Sancti Spiritus (13-11), Artemisa, Industriales, and Las Tunas (12-12), and Santiago de Cuba (8-16).
