2024 MLB Wild Card Series | Yordan made a comeback with two hits, while Ibáñez and Yuli each hit doubles. Soler also managed to secure a hit

Major League Baseball (MLB) Cuban Players News for the 2024 Postseason. A compendium from several MLB sources

Yordan Alvarez made his comeback in the Astros lineup for the American League Wild Card Series versus the Tigers.

After recovering from a knee sprain, Yordan Alvarez batted 2-for-4 with a double against the Tigers on Tuesday. Following the planned strategy, Alvarez took a cautious approach on the base paths. His double occurred in the ninth inning, after which he was substituted for a pinch-runner.

Unfortunately, the Astros fell short with a 3-1 loss to the Tigers, with Tarik Skubal pitching a stellar game by shutting out the Astros for six innings with 88 pitches, striking out 6 and only allowing one walk. Skubal exited the game due to cramping, but the Tigers managed to maintain their lead. In reference to Yordan's performance following an injury he sustained last week, Astros' manager Joe Espada commented post-game: "He got two hits, a double and a single, moving around pretty good. The swings look like he got force behind them. He was able to rotate. He looked good getting out of the box. Got to second base there on the double, so that was really good to see."

Andy Ibáñez hit a double in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series.

In the American League Wild Card Series Game 1 against the Astros on Tuesday, Andy Ibáñez recorded a double, going 1-for-2. The double, achieved in the second inning off lefty Framber Valdéz with one out, did not impact the score. This marked Ibáñez's first career postseason hit. Although the Tigers won the game 3-1, Ibáñez was substituted by pinch hitter Colt Keith in the top of the fifth inning with one out and a runner on base. In the 2024 season, Ibáñez had a decent performance in a limited capacity, with a .241/.295/.357 slash line, 15 extra-base hits, 30 runs, and 32 RBIs.

Yuli Gurriel with one hit in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series.

In Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against Baltimore on Tuesday, Yulieski Gurriel recorded his 88th postseason hit. Despite striking out once, he managed to go 1-for-3 in the game.

The Royals secured a narrow 1-0 victory. Gurriel struck out in the second inning against Corbin Burnes but bounced back in the fifth with a single to center field. This hit drew him level with David Ortiz for the 12th spot on the all-time postseason hits list at 88. Just three hits shy of tying Carlos Correa at 91, the Cuban veteran is closing in on the top 10.

In Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series, José Iglesias got a hit and an RBI.

The Mets continued their impressive performance, defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 on Tuesday in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series. During the game, José Iglesias went 1-for-5, scoring a run, getting an RBI, and striking out. Despite being struck out in the first inning and grounding out to third base in the third inning, Iglesias managed to hit an infield single in the fifth inning to bring Tyrone Taylor home, tying the game at 4-4.

This single marked Iglesias' first postseason hit since October 19, 2013, against Boston, and the RBI was his first in a postseason since October 16, 2013, also against Boston while playing for Detroit.

In Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Padres, Jorge Soler secured a hit.

Michael King and two relievers proceeded to blank the Braves in a 4-0 victory at Petco Park in San Diego during Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series. During the game, Jorge Soler managed to secure a hit, going 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. The hit occurred in the ninth inning against closer Robert Suárez, marking Soler's 21st postseason hit in five postseason appearances, 29 games, and 91 plate appearances.

Rangers' Adolis García is getting an MRI on knee.

Rangers GM Chris Young announced on Tuesday that Adolis García will have an MRI on his left knee, as reported by Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com. Young is optimistic that surgery may not be necessary, but a clearer picture will emerge once the MRI results are known. Adolis sustained the injury while trying to leg out an infield hit during the last weekend of the regular season.
