NPB: José Adolis García Signs Contract with Yomiuri Giants

Jose Adolis Garcia becomes the second Cuban player to sign a contract to play for the Yomiuri Giants. Relief pitcher Hector Mendoza is the first. Mendoza has yet to pitch for the major league team, but he has made 10 appearances for the Giants minor league equivalent, picking up two saves with a 1.64 ERA. The Giants would like to see him improve his control before they promote him as he has walked six hitters in just 11 innings.
Jose Adolis is the brother of Braves third baseman Adonis Garcia. In the Nacional Series Garcia hit .314 with 14 homeruns and 71 RBIs for Ciego de Avila. The 71 RBIs led the Cuban League and also helped Ciego to win the championship over Pinar. Garcia is only 23 and may start the season in the minor leagues.
