2016 Cuban Finals: Pinar Scratches Out Victory

Pinar was able to avoid a sweep scratching out a 6-3 win over Ciego. Michael Gonzalez hit a three run homer and lead off hitter Lazaro Ramirez clubbed a solo shot to lead the charge.

Livan Moinelo captured the last five outs to preserve the win.


It didn’t start out so well for Pinar. Luis Robert balsted a two run homer in the third off Pinar starter Erlis Casanova to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. In the bottom frame Ciego roared back with Michael Gonzalez doing it one better, smacking a three run homer off Vladimir Garcia to give Pinar a 3-2 lead.

All three runs were unearned after a Raul Gonzalez error extended the inning.

Lazaro Ramirez hit a solo shot in the sixth to give Pinar a 4-2 lead. Ciego still leads the series three games to one.
