2015 Cuban Finals: Yoelvis Fiss's Grand Slam Helps Tigers Win Game 1

Yoelvis Fiss

Ciego's Yoelvis Fiss, furthered his postseason legend in the first-inning of Friday night's Cuban Finals Game 1. With the bases loaded, two outs, Fiss clobbered the fifth pitch he saw from Isla de la Juventud Pirates starter Ulfrido García over the left-field fence and into the stands.

Grand slam. Tigers 4, Pirates 0. Fiss, a true hero in Game 1 for Ciego de Avila.

The grand slam keyed a victory for the Tigers, who won 4-0 behind a magistral performance from Ismel Jiménez.

Tigers starter Jiménez allowed only 3 hits into the seventh inning. He struck out 8 Pirates batters, and was pulled after the seventh inning.

The Pirates were dominated by Ciego pitching in the series opener. Reliever Leorisbel Sánchez and closer Yunier Cano allowed a single in two innings of relief. They struck out 2 batters to preserve the win.

After Pirates starter Ulfrido García allowed four runs in 1/3 innings, the visitor team got 6 2/3 score-less innings of work from reliever Luis Manuel Suárez who struck out 8 and walked 2.

Ulfrido García was charged with the loss and Jiménez archived his second win of the 2015 Postseason.
