2015 Postseason: La Isla take Game 3 for 2-1 lead in the Cuban semifinals

Mendoza dominated and manager Víctor Mesa let another game slip away as the Isla de la Juventud Pirates beat the Matanzas Crocodiles 7-6 Friday afternoon, improving to 2-1 in the 2015 Postseason series against their rivals.

A single by Jorge Tartabull in the bottom of the 12th inning, sent home rookie Geovany Díaz with the winning run that gave La Isla the lead 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Héctor Mendoza (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 solid innings of relief to close the game, earning his first win of the semifinals.

Both starting pitchers struggled, forcing their managers to use the bullpen early.

For Matanzas Cionel Pérez, who had been excellent during the season, allowed three runs - two earned - three hits and one walk in just 2/3 innings.

La Isla starter, Darién Núñez, completed only one inning allowing three earned runs, one hit and two walks.

Jorge Tartabull #25 (left) hit the game-winning single in 12th inning and Héctor M. Mendoza (right) closed the game earning the win.

Yasmani Insúa (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing the decisive run in the 12th inning.
