MLB | Mets Expect Cespedes To Return For Second Half of the Season

Jeff Wilpon said on Mike Francesa’s show today that the team expects to see Yoenis Céspedes return from double-heel surgery in “realistically, the second half of the season.”

Céspedes, 33, underwent surgery on one of his heels in August and the other one in October that is expected to keep him out of the lineup well into next season, with no specific timetable. However, this gives us some insight into how long Mets fans will have to wait to see “La Potencia” playing left field.

Baseball for the blind being played and taught in Cuba with hopes of spreading across Latin America

HAVANA, Cuba — Baseball and softball are played by over 65 million people in over 140 countries, and the global sport, which is returning to the Olympic Games in 2020, is also growing among players with disabilities such as visual impairment.

Baseball for the blind players and officials from Cuba, France, Germany and Italy — and the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) — recently organised meetings and training in Havana, where baseball for the blind was introduced by the Italian Association of Baseball for the Blind (AIBXC) a few year ago.

The SCHEDULE for the second half of the 58 Cuban National Series (CNS), was released by the Cuban Baseball Federation today, and includes 45 games for the six teams competing in the final stage of the national tournament.

The Orioles Lose Out to the Victors

There were two teams with the international bonus money competing for two Cuban prospects, Victor Victor Mesa and Victor Mesa Jr. They were the Orioles and the Marlins. The Marlins will have a press conference on Monday and it is expected that this press conference will announce the signings of the two Mesa brothers.

Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania all represented in Top 10 of latest WBSC Baseball World Rankings

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today unveiled the newly updated WBSC Baseball World Rankings, which weigh a country’s National Team performance — from U-12 to Professional — in official WBSC-sanctioned international competitions over a four-year period (2015-2018).

Underscoring baseball’s growing status as a major global team sport, representatives from the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania are all present within the Top 10 of the WBSC Baseball World Rankings.

58 CNS | 2018-19 Cuban Baseball Season Schedule Released

The 2018-19 Cuban Baseball National Series (BNS) will get underway on Thursday, August 9. It will feature the game between the Granma Stallions and Las Tunas Woodcutters at Mártires de Barbados Stadium in Granma at 7:00 pm (ET).

WBSC reveals Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualifiers for Baseball, Softball

The qualification system for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has been unveiled during the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Executive Committee meeting in Paris.

Just six teams will participate in the Olympic tournament and the WBSC is planning a round-robin format but they could not confirmed.

The host, Japan, is already qualified for the tournament.

Special Series Calendar Released

The Cuban Baseball Federation released the 2018 Special Series calendar on Wednesday, less than 24 hours before the inaugural game, today at 7:15 pm at Guillermón Moncada Stadium in Santiago de Cuba. 

The calendar features 24 matches between the three teams involved in the tournament, Occidentales, Centrales and Orientales.

The opening game will feature Orientales playing Occidentales, and a day later Centrales will make its debut facing Orientales at Nguyen van Troi Stadium in Guantánamo.
