Yunieski Maya Tosses No Hitter for Doosan in Korea
Yunesky Maya tossed the first no hitter of the 2015 season for the summer leagues. He no hit the Nexen Heroes in a 1-0 win. It is the 12th no hitter in KBO baseball, the second by a foreign pitcher. Last year Charlie Shirek of the NC Dinos pitched the first no hitter by a foreign pitcher.
Maya walked three and struck out eight in the outing, throwing a KBO career high 136 pitches. He is now 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in three starts.
Another foreign player Marcus Thames had a good day hitting for the cycle in the NC Dinos 4-2 win over the Kia Tigers. He is the 17th player in KBO history to hit for the cycle, also only the second foreign player to hit for the cycle. Manny Martinez was the first foreign player to hit for the cycle, doing that for the Samsung Lions in 2001.
In a 5 for 5 performance, Marcus first hit was a double in the first inning and he repeated that in the third. He hit his league leading sixth homerun in the fifth inning, a solo shot. The seventh inning saw him pluck a single to right. It was in his last at bat in the ninth when he slapped a ball past the first base bag and hustled to third base to complete the cycle. The 4-2 win put the NC Dinos into first place in the KBO.
The KT Whiz can look at the NC Dinos for motivation. They lost their 10th straight since the start of the season, a 13-2 thrashing by the SK Wyverns. Phil Irwin could not get past the third inning, giving up eight hits and four runs. Myworld will report when the KT Whiz get their first ever KBO victory.
