2018 Postseaon: Casanova Dominant in Complete-Game Gem As Industriales Beat Las Tunas 4-2 to take a 3-2 lead
The Industriales Lions didn't need any more late-inning dramatics.
They scored early and late this time, and Erlys Casanova did the rest to put the Lions one step closer of the Cuban National Series Finals.
Casanova had just held the Woodcutters to two runs and three hits in Industriales’s 4-2 victory on Saturday night in Game 5 of the Cuban Semifinals in front of 42,639 at Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana.
The Lions now have a 3-2 lead in the best of seven series as they head to Las Tunas for Games 6 and 7.
Casanova took a no-hitter into the nineth inning with only 73 pitches and ended up limiting the Woodcutters to two runs.
The right-handed from Pinar del Río pitched a gem allowing only two runners – HBP and BB - on base during eight innings and retiring 22 of the first 24 hitters he saw.
Casanova, in his second postseason start this year, made quite a name for himself.
The Latinoamericano Stadium was still feeling the electricity of Friday night's 6-3 Las Tunas win. But when the game ended, after a controversial play in third base that had to be reviewed, Casanova had compiled the following numbers:

In the fourth inning Industriales scored twice when Alex Malleta started the inning with a solo homer to right. It was his HR#24 in Postseason history, only three behind all-time leader Omar Linares (27).
Minutes later, with Osmel Cordero in scoring position, Joasán Guillén RBI-single to center gave the Lions a 2-0 lead.
In the eighth reliever RHP Yosimar Cousin’s wild pitch gave Industriales a 3-0 lead and Malleta followed with his second RBI of the game, a grounder to second base that brought home Yordanis Samón.
Las Tunas starting pitcher, 20 y/old RHP Yariel Rodríguez, threw an excellent game, allowing four runs – three earned -, four hits, four walks with four strikeouts. He took the loss.

The Latinoamericano crowd was nervous in the nineth inning, when Las Tunas scored twice against Casanova, had two runners on base and cleanup Yosvany Alarcón at bat. But Alarcón grounded out to shortstop Sánchez to end the game.
Game 6 will be on Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m. LHP Misael Villa will take the mound for Industriales while RHP Vladimir Baños gets the call for Las Tunas.
